Highschool kids are awkward, shy, may have never been in a relationship before. I don't think it's at all uncommon for the kind of stuff we see in "Orange" to happen in real life. Obviously they drag it on a bit for shows, but still. What about the highschool kids who aren't awkward, aren't shy, and have been in a relationship before? If they have the confidence, sure, but they rarely do in anime. It's hard for anyone I think to say, "So, you said you'd choose me out of 3? So, do you want to date?" People tend to want that sure thing and not risk it. There, again, there are plenty of people that take that risk, but for the sake of anime they are usual cut from the same mold and they remove the risk taking confidence from most MCs. At least the ones that I have seen.
What is that argument? Because every anime does it, it's ok that every anime does it?

What you are saying is precisely what I criticized about the genre in general. That most of the shows have their characters fumble around each other for 12 episodes with a final payoff in episode 13 simply because they are so dense is what I dislike about the genre and why I usually stay away from it. After seeing it a few times, it gets old and predictable very fast... and, to be honest, pretty uninteresting. It might be due to the fact that I am a grown man and not a highschool kid anymore. I have experienced the frustration myself, especially when friends of mine fall in love with each other and are too stupid to notice it themselves, which is why I don't need a couple dozen anime shows that follow the same trend and do the same thing that already frustrated me when I was that age. What it also does is try to reduce romance to the central conflict of trying to find out that the other person is interested as well. Casting that boring format aside would leave so much time to explore more interesting themes that have usually been looked over.
I think you are dead on when you said
People tend to want that sure thing and not risk it albeit in a different way and context. That statement could be made about the directors and writers of those shows as much as about the characters in their shows. And I prefer shows that don't follow that same old format.

More anime high school dramas could take a page from Karekano. MCs together by episode 4, then work from there

So I open the first ep of Owari and hear Araragi talking about Eulers law. PTSD ensures and I haven't looked at it for a week. Why you do this Nisio. I jut want more Hitagi and Shinobu and Kanbaru and Fire sisters. first part had some hitagi but not very much. 2nd part is all about Shinobu and Kanbaru. With a really epic fight between Shinobu and Kanbaru as well :3

Clearly everyone needs to read more Spotted Flower.
Alderamin ep 5 sucked. Absurdly clever wolves aside, I think this episode confirmed for me that all the characters are boring. As a whole, they just lack charisma. The MC is slightly less boring than the rest of the cast, but any time he starts talking about science I die a little inside.
Kuromukuro sucks. I always knew it was going to shit the bed when the story got going, but it still hurts. The show would honestly be better if they just stuck with sol the entire time. Goddamnit PA Works. I can't believe I had some faith in you for once.
Mob Pyscho 100 ep 5 was... actually pretty good.

How his very word causes hordes of his follows to jump with joy? How anything he desires is given to him by his loyal following? Don't try to fucking justify harem bullshit. They made like retards because that's what Japanese highschool kids like reading and they don't have sex with everyone because Japanese Otakus have a hissy fit if their 2D girls aren't virgins. Virginity isn't the sole thing, any kind of normal healthy body image is a massive no no. A girl that is comfortable in her skin to involve themselves sexually with MC? What a impure whore.
So, let's start with, what the hell are you talking about? Followed by, I'm clearly referencing Orange and the those type of anime in a more "real" setting.
You obviously were not reading what I was writing and then came flying out of left field at me.

Dude that Kanbaru v Shinobu scene was worth watching all of Owari for on its own.

There was no point except the fact that people seem to always be pissy about it like they don't understand where the MC may be coming from. I personally agree with what most people are saying. I would always, ALWAYS prefer if the MC or whoever would just sack up and admit they like someone then the story go from rejection or to relationship. A show doesn't have to end with either of those two outcomes. Hell, a show doesn't even have to focus on those two outcomes, but that's the way it's always written.

Harems tilt me. DxD gave me PTSD.

The only thing with DxD is that its ecchi but now he is in an actual harem relationship with his harem but the authors editor won't let him write them being sexually active so they are in an ecchi series but the relationship he has with his girls is pure.

The genre would be dead because no one wants to watch an asshole fuck his way through the female cast and he a prick about it over and over. You can say it worked once as a change of pace type thing but even then most people did not like School Days.
I agree though that there needs to be more self aware mcs who have actual confidence in themselves.

well atleast the side-story with their future children confirms that they actually go further, eventually

I didn't know there was a side story like this....I figured they would just do a flash forward at the end since DxD is one of the few legit harems that will not have an open ending since its pretty much set in stone that they are all his lovers with Rias being the legal wife.
|
Slaughter, School Days is clearly just 2deep4u, considering that Makoto was both the hero Harem anime deserved, and the one it needs
|
I think there is a middle ground between Makoto and the run of the mill harem mcs out there. They just don't do it much because in the end they don't give a fuck about the mcs because harems are all about the girls so they just go with some plain idiot.
|
Yeah but think how much better harem anime would be if it was actually the MC who is the best character, and not one of the girls

Yeah I am sure even women/girls would like that.. I don't understand harem authors either
