That's essentially it. It has a Groundhog Day thing going on (for reasons that you will discover), and the start of Alternative has him starting over, only this time with the skills and MOST of the knowledge he picked up the first time around, and a desire to do things differently this time.
I guess this is your first time reading through Muv-Luv? What did you think about the genre swap between Extra/Unlimited? Was it something you knew about going on? Whose your favorite girl?

Sounds good, and yeah it's my first time through Muv-Luv. Pretty much only started reading visual novels when they started doing official translations, gone back to read some fan translation of ones that don't seem to be getting official translations too. I don't even mind the cut content on steam that many people are whining about, from the few fan translations I've read the mature scenes tend to be pretty awkward and don't add much to the story, Utawarerumono the most recent culprit.
Extra wasn't great but I still somewhat enjoyed it and managed to get through it just fine, Unlimited took things to a much more interesting direction and I'm expecting Alternative to expand on that. I did spoil myself enough to know the rough difference between Extra and Unlimited before starting, from romcom to sci-fi drama with some well placed comedy.
Think I'l go back to do the Extra routes I skipped now, only did Meiya, Sumika and accidentally common route 1 when I thought I was on Meiyas route, trolled me pretty hard that. Probably not going to do all the Unlimited routes as that seems heavy on effort but then I again probably got time before Alternative.
Can't say who my girl is yet but Meiya was a easy choice in Unlimited, also fond of Ayamine and Sumika. Not really into loli sniper/reverse trap/class rep yet at least, guess theres the older ladies too.
Also noticed that Kasumi was anagram on Sumika on top of all the other references, there must be something going on there but I don't want to know about that yet.

Alternative will definitely expand on things. I love its setting. Alternative easily longer than both Extra and Unlimited combined, so you should get plenty out of it. The main thing with Alternative is there is only one "route", so I don't expect the amount of choice you are given for the first two. While there are choices, mostly they amount to different dialogue, or a different scene with different characters here or there, but the main story is the same regardless.
I'm a big Sumika fan, but Meiya and Ayamine are good too. The others are alright, but I never really put them on the same level as Sumika or Meiya.
And honestly with Unlimited, you don't even need to bother with any of the other routes. Other than one bad end with Yuuko, every route in Unlimited is the same, just with a different girl. The Extra routes are all pretty different, though. You'll really hate Chizuru if you subject yourself to her route. Ayamine's Extra route is alright, and it actually introduces a character there that you'll want to recognize by the time you get to Alternative, so its a good idea to go through that one.

Good to know, I'l just skip Chizuru then, she isn't likeable to begin with so I was hoping her route would change that for the better rather than worse.
Sumika was pretty annoying at start of Extra but grew really likeable towards the end, but her not being in Unlimited skewed me towards Meiya for now.

Chizuru's Extra route is pretty closely tied to the Lacrosse arc in Extra, and the Lacrosse arc is widely considered the lowest part of that game. Her route makes it a lot worse before it gets "better".

I agree but all ages versions can also mean censored violence/gore in some cases wich would be very bad for ML:A. Alternative can be very visceral at times and any censorship can greatly diminish the impact of some scenes. The kickstarter said they were aiming for little to no censorship for Alternative so hopefully it won't be an issue.

I find it weird how widely it's hated. It's boring as hell but the rest of extra isn't that much better and Takeru's savage speech is one of the best moments of Extra.

Wasn't there the whole week, just watched KonoBi and Planetarian. Both were great, sad the later is already over. Also half way through the 2nd volume of LotGH books, shit's getting real.
@ Sent: I know you said this volume will go till like ep 28. I also preordered the 3rd volume, which will probably get to ep 42 or so... Do you know if there'll be more books later on that finish the whole story? Since the anime goes till ep 110, so I assume it would need like 7-8 volumes.
edit: Nvm the actual japanese novel has 14 volumes, so perhaps it'd be 14 as well? Unless theres more content in the english translations per volume.

I'm not sure where the 3rd volume will end up, but yeah, there are 14 novels in japanese, so all we can do is hope that the books are selling good enough for them to keep up with the translation!

Well there's a remake of the series coming out (sadly) which might cause more people to go check out the translated source material, they might be hoping that helps sell a lot of volumes.

I think at the moment he asked he + Show Spoiler +loved her, but no the same way he loves Emilia. And hearing her talk about what it would be like, they both knew that he wouldn't be able to do it while she would always know he'd be thinking of Emilia.
