Edit: Though I guess that's kinda cheating since it's not a shounen.

And finally, similar character designs are always funny. ![]() ![]() Watched episode 1 of Infinite Stratos right now. Nice opening song, pretty good visuals overall. The preview battle looked interesting, but I'm more fascinated by the school building and the random technological advances that were displayed so far. The rest is a typical harem setting, but only one guy in a boarding school that only has women. Can be good, can be horrible, to early to tell. + Show Spoiler [Infinite Stratos Ep1] + Why do they say that the IS are forbidden to be used in warfare, but after that the girls say that females would win any war against the male population in 3 days? While I think a female dominated society is very interesting, it doesn't make much sense yet. It seemed that the IS suits are something that you need training and experience for, and that the suits themselves are rather expensive. Why would they lead to such changes in society? I hope they reveal more about the setting in later episodes. Also I think that a female main character would have been more interesting (you could keep the one guy in the class, just change the view point). (Of course he would get the childhood friend as his roommate, so predictable. Let's see if first girl wins is in effect or not.) Edit: Now watching MSMM Ep1, since gg's translation is out.

First episode wasn't bad, that battle at the beginning was cool. Looking forward to more like it. + Show Spoiler [IS Talk] + I think the Treaty saying IS are forbidden in war probably won't mean too much. I get the feeling that their combat power is probably really big (alot bigger than conventional weapons like tanks or jets), and thus people think they are too powerful to use in actual war (for similar reasons we haven't used nukes in war since WW2). So I guess they would be deterrents more than anything else. These things are essentially tiny Gundams piloted by boobs. Not saying that they CAN'T use them, since with a plot like this, it almost demands them being used in war at some point. I guess it lead to a change in society, since even though women didn't fight men in a war, they would have the potential to beat men in a war very quickly. Though, I think if there was a war, what would just stop countries like the US from just sending special forces in to just murder the IS pilots in their sleep? lol well this show probably isn't meant to be that dark, so just over-thinking on my part.

Anyways I started playing chaos;head today and I'm just wondering what is that siren with a pulse of red and green light on the top of the screen? I thought it was just some atmosphere or soundtrack, but when I clicked on the top of the screen the siren and lights faded.

On the one hand the plot looks like typical magical girl stuff, on the other hand it feels somewhat differently. I had to think of Nanoha at multiple parts of the episode and some parts are so similar that it has to be deliberate. Also, what's up with the great school architecture in IS and MSMM? First you get a pretty high-tech boarding school and after that you get a school with classrooms and walls out of glass. (I think such a school would end up a huge distraction for the students. But it looks pretty.) No ED theme this time, but the next episode / ending image looked really good. I hope someone else picks up the show. gg's subs were fine this time, but I prefer subs that keep honorifics intact. Also just writing "puella magi" (even if it is one of the official names of the show) as translation for "mahou shoujo" sounds and feels stupid.</nitpick>

And chances are high that gov't programs are developing them in secret. I don't think the society is entirely female dominated. The academy is, but that's because it's centered around using the IS suits. We do talk about VNs here sometimes. IIRC the green and red pulses are part of the choice system that affects the story. You can also opt to choose neither pulse.

You can see this with I believe Shounen jump and such increasingly providing web-based or straight mobile-based manga distribution. It was already a matter of time before this became even more widespread. Such an attack on traditional distribution simply provides more incentive for publishers to move into the burgeoning e-book scene. In a roundabout way, I actually love this, because I would dearly, dearly love to see Japanese publishing companies make the move to e-books so I can get Japanese books cheaper. The silly thing though is that they are trying to get a higher margin on digital distribution when it should be cheaper by first taking away a distributor then removing printing costs. Their attempts to move into digital delivery thus far has been pretty pathetic to be honest. So really, to me, all this really just mean that they will try to go for digital distribution, but without trying to fit in all the benefits of the method that gave such a boom to the likes of Apple and Amazon in the US. What Spazer said, essentially choices you could make. iirc red was the more bloody imaginations and green the more ero-based? But yeah we do randomly discuss VN here, though don't expect anything in the next 3 months unless Southlight decide to read something or I get lucky and find things worth talking about ![]() On January 07 2011 09:52 Sentenal wrote: My favorite part of Index is when Tsuchimikado is laying on the ground, getting killed by magic, Touma is like "blah blah blah blah" rather than doing anything to help him. I'm new to Anime, but I've been very impressed with movies like Mononoke-Hime, Ninja Scroll and Steamboy blew my mind. I'm not much for series (It's just too huge to have to start something as huge as a series), but if anybody can recommend me anything to watch, it would be great. I obviously know about most of the mainstream works, but almost 600 posts, there's gotta be some people who know some awesome shit that I never heard of. Anything that could be said to rival Steamboy in animation and production quality would be amazing, but msotly, I just want more stuff where spiky haired dudes with giant swords are battling in interesting environments, and being accompanied by strong female characters... Tragedy or comedy, I like them both. Not sure if this is what you do on this thread, but thought I might as well ask here... With a thread this big it might be had to check back etc, so definitely feel free to PM if you wanna get in touch. I'd love to explore this new love with some guidance!

A lot of the good shows are series though. You're missing out. So good movies and OVAs, huh? Kinda sounds like you want shounen stuff too. 5 cm/s (Romance) Summer Wars Kara no Kyoukai (Not shounen, set of 7 movies, confusing until movie 3-4. Damn good though.) Denpateki na Kanojo (not shounen, 2 episodes) Rurouni Kenshin: Trust and Betrayal (based off a shounen series, though the movie/OVAs themselves arguably aren't shounen) Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann (there are 2 movies, gurren-hen and lagann-hen, if you're against watching series) Eve no Jikan (Romance. Available as a 6 part OVA or as a compilation movie. Either is fine.) The Girl Who Jumped Through Time (not shounen) Break Blade FLCL I'd recommend the Eva movies, but it's not the same if you haven't watched the series, imo.

With the series thing, it's just that I can't deal with comitting so many hours to something at this point. It's alittle intimidating to know that you have to grant something 30 hours of your life before you can assess wether or not it was actually worth it.
