BTW, slight change of subject:
What do you guys think of Bittenfeld and Kesler so far? Bittenfeld hasn't really had a chance to do much yet, and Kesler doesn't get enough screen time, but those are two of my favorite supporting characters.

+ Show Spoiler +Ironically, I haven't seen Kesler enough to recognize him. But I think that Bittenfeld is lucky he's still alive, after almost losing his fleet at Amlitzer.

And in the next she's like "I hate you! Don't ever talk to me again!" Really? I always thought Chidori was one of the more bearable tsunderes out there. Especially after season 2.
Yes the novels are licensed in the US, but they are being released at a rate which could be defined as glacial. Hell, they're not even caught up with the second season of the anime. Fortunately, fans have picked up the slack, so the entire series is translated, including some of the short stories.
+ Show Spoiler [LoGH stuff] +Yeah, neither Bittenfeld nor Kesler have really had enough appearances at this point for me to really have an opinion on either of them. So far, the only Imperial Empire officers I really know and recognize are Reinhard, Kircheis, and Oberstein. Also Merkatz because he's old and easy to pick out.
Edit: By the way, I've been wondering about the tactics they employ during battle. It seems like they use some sort of beam weaponry which presumably has a maximum range because of particle dispersion or blooming. However, since they're in space, mass based weaponry would be very effective since the range would be essentially infinite. The only problem would be whether you could hit a moving target at that range. Being in a wall formation seems like a logical way to counter this problem since that would increase the probability of your shots hitting (heck, they already do this). In any case, if you have infinite range, you could sit outside the range of your enemy's sensors, send in a scout fleet, and have them designate targets for the main fleet. With this strategy, the only element of the fleet at risk are the scouts. Even if the scout fleet is destroyed, the first few salvos of your main fleet should be sufficient to gain a decisive advantage.

The episode that was all about that followed Kesler. Hes the one with the grey hair on his sideburns.
As for mass based weapons, I'm not sure why they never use them. They use missiles from time to time, but thats pretty much it. Maybe the creators didn't think that more mass based weapons were sci-fi enough.

+ Show Spoiler +Ahh, yeah, now I remember.
The thing about mass-based weaponry is that it's slower, too. Yes, lasers have draw backs, but missiles and stuff would be better at close range. Because of the massive distance between the fleets. Not to mention sensor lag, as light/heat/IR/whatever they detect only travels so fast.

Maybe the creators didn't think that more mass based weapons were sci-fi enough. + Show Spoiler +Oh, that was Kesler? It's kinda difficult keeping up with all these characters. There's just so many... And Ferrose, I think that if humans were capable of building and mass producing huge warships and ftl drives, they can figure out how to make a big magnetic accelerator cannon capable of accelerating matter to just under the speed of light. Anyway, the point of my strategy was that mass based weaponry would be good for a low-risk surprise attack. If I can pinpoint your position and fire on you while outside of your range and you're taken by surprise, even if the projectiles are only a fraction of the speed of light, chances are pretty good that you'll suffer a great deal of damage before you can react. Plus surprise attacks tend to throw a fleet into disarray, especially when you can't see the enemy.

I decided to watch Seitokai Yakuindomo and it's pretty hilarious so far. Ridiculous, but very funny.

LOGH Rewatch ep12: + Show Spoiler +Hey, there is Lebello. He isn't a bad politican on the alliance side, just kinda... unfortunate. You will feel sorry for him later on. Even though it will be a while till he gets promoted to an "I recognize this guy" character. I forgot he was friends with Yang's initial boss.
Yang's musings about a democracy (badly governed) vs dictatorships (bad government) is always amusing in this show. Despite his idealism, he is very realistic in ways.
Haha, a good way to check and see who the rational members of the alliance military are, is to watch their expression during Fork's ramblings

Chidori's tsundere-ness has actual good reasons with Sousuke blowing up the school, attacking fellow students, and just causing general havoc. You learn to tolerate other people's faults, but not when they bring biological weapon to school

Hmm actually, fortissimo EXA//Akkord:Bsusvier is getting an overhaul to include voice and expand on the story, so that might be worth a try. Though first Dies Irae, now this, what's with games and their need to be released like 3 times to get all the content when the companies are forced to release the content in free downloadable patch anyway ./rolls eyes Its ok, plenty of LNs left to plow through. Meh I'll still play it probably, it is just way lower priority than the Eushully game. I mean ffs it has a grid.

LOGH: + Show Spoiler +Oh yeah, one more point about the mass based weapon talk. I'm not sure if they have commented on it yet, but the level of technology in the series has progressed communication jamming to a whole new level. Remember when Yang was trying to take Iserlohn Fortress, and they were able to jam the Fortress's communications so much that they had no idea where Yang's fleet was, or even were their Station Fleet was? I think because of things like this, sending in some scouting vessels to pinpoint the locations of targets for the fleet would be impractical, since communication the target locations would probably get jammed.

What is with all the LOGH talk going on. i know its an older anime but whats it about and seems like all of a sudden it got popular evben thought its been out for a long time ????
|
Its description on MAL is way better than anything I could say:
For decades, the Galactic Empire has been locked in an interstellar war with the Free Planets Alliance, a conflict that involves thousands of spaceships and millions of soldiers on both sides. Two new commanders enter the conflict with great hopes: Imperial Admiral Reinhard von Lohengramm and the FPA's Yang Wen-Li. As they deal with superiors and subordinates, maneuver through complicated political arrangements, plot strategies, and win battles, each will be tested, and ultimately, changed, by the reality of war.
It's just popular because a few of us picked up on it at the same time
|
Its popular here because its one of the best animes ever made, and such hype got several people here watching it at the same time

I started watching just because everybody else started watching. LoGH has been on my "to watch" list for ages, but I've been procrastinating since it's so goddamn long. 110 episodes is nothing to sneeze at. The prospect of actually being able to discuss it here gave me the push I needed to finally get started.
And it is good.
A scanlation group did the prologue of the Infinite Stratos manga, so I read it. It was kinda annoying just because I kept reading "IS" as "is" which makes a lot of sentences really confusing. ><

The show will probably be easier when we have to listen to the seiyuus say "IS" in their best Engrish

+ Show Spoiler [LoGH 19+20] +OH GOD IT'S FORK. D: How the heck do you fail to kill someone at that range anyways? It's not like those guns have recoil... Yang as leader of the Alliance? It's an interesting idea, but it's just not in him to do something like that, unfortunately. ![[image loading]](http://imgur.com/Fmbpk.jpg) What the fuck. Are they retarded? This is like the stupidest thing you could wish for. You should hope to god that Yang just stays home and never bothers you again. -_- Merkatz is High Admiral, yet nobody will listen to him. Ugh. This was ridiculous: ![[image loading]](http://imgur.com/yTx9A.jpg) The way they finally beat Ovlesser was incredibly stupid, but hey, whatever works, I guess.
Edit: I am so pumped for Madoka. And the MSL games today were great. Best day ever.
