With the series thing, it's just that I can't deal with comitting so many hours to something at this point. It's alittle intimidating to know that you have to grant something 30 hours of your life before you can assess wether or not it was actually worth it. Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann was worth it. Trust me.
How can I? :O
I noticed Steamboy isn't on the recommendation list... That's suspicious!
I forgot to mention the first anime I watched and loved with which was Nagareboshi Gin, or Silver Fang. Though it's not stellar animation, I fell in love with the stoic nature of the series and the hardcore action scenes. Plus, it's only 17 half-hour episodes .

At 20 minutes apiece, that's a total of 4 hours. Plus isn't this what recommendations are for?

Just watched IS 1 and MSMM 1.
IS 1:
+ Show Spoiler +Hmm. Interesting. So some guy goes to Hogwarts for girls. The fight scene at the beginning was nice, and got me into the show. I think that this show could be a good chance for a portrayal of a more matriarchal society.
But wtf is this shit? You can't use the IS for war? Just sports and civic shit? That's like inventing guns, and saying that you can only use them for skeet shooting. Though you guys are probably right, in that that'll be thrown out the window. I hope the characters end up being deeper than what they appear to be.
MSMM 1:
+ Show Spoiler +I haven't watched a SHAFT show in a while, but that was nice. I liked the art, the character design was nice, and the building architecture was really interesting. And I love the dark feeling that the last few minutes gave me. This show definitely caught me off guard. I'm excited for next week's episode. And another nice OP by ClariS. ^_^ Unlimited musket works lolol ![[image loading]](http://img80.imageshack.us/img80/7326/watzo.jpg)

I'd be pleasantly surprised if your wishes came true, but chances are good that this is just a harem mecha show.

+ Show Spoiler [LoGH 21+22] +The battle went as predicted, but what a stupid waste of men. Sentenel, I see what you meant when you said their jamming was good. I mean, once the 11th fleet was split in half, they lost contact with each other. That's pretty insane.
It seems like assassination is the way to go when facing Yang. Why waste ships and men fighting him when you can remove him from the battle entirely? I think Reinhard's gonna assassinate him. Oberstein will probably suggest it, and Reinhard will agree (Probably reluctantly though. Reinhard likely wants to beat Yang in battle, but in the end, I think he's too practical to overlook the benefits of assassinating Yang). And then Kircheis will hate him for it.
I can't believe they killed Jessica. I liked her. D:
The result of the battle between the nobles and Reinhard's fleet was expected. It does seem like there's two competent commander on the nobles side though (Merkatz and that other guy <_< ).
I did like that the outcome of the civil wars kinda mirror each other in that it's just a "matter of time".
lol at "nobility is a disease"

+ Show Spoiler [IS #1] + Yeah, the introduction fight got like 90% of the viewers hooked right there, while the 1st episode overall, I feel was somewhat mediocre. Very basic interaction, 1st duel announcement, very few funny moments. We didn't even get to see the ISes up close at all. Hopefully it will only get better from now on.

On January 07 2011 11:54 Spazer wrote:+ Show Spoiler +Just because it's against the treaty for IS to be used in war, if a war broke out, do you really think nobody would use them? And chances are high that gov't programs are developing them in secret.
I don't think the society is entirely female dominated. The academy is, but that's because it's centered around using the IS suits.
+ Show Spoiler [More IS talk and random speculation] +Of course people would use the suits in war, even if it means that they have to break the treaty. At least if they need the suits to win. I'm more interested in the fact that they are telling us about the treaty and how the IS are not to be used in warfare in the first episode. I wonder if it is foreshadowing, simple background information or misleading? At least from the reaction of the girls it seemed that the changes to society are at least a little deeper than only in the academy. Of course the academy has only females, but that's to be expected since males can't use the IS. Still their comment about "males used to be stronger than women" feels like it is not only about IS competitions (because males never competed there in the first place). Other random stuff, taken from the OP so far: ![[image loading]](http://imgur.com/6oCzo.png) The logo for IS (maybe only for the academy?) is actually very nice. You can clearly see two stylized "IS" writings at the side and the top. 4 wings adorn a female figure and the shape of the legs may even double as a sword. Looks great. ![[image loading]](http://imgur.com/iMbeK.jpg) Things we see here: Shield energy / energy management, 2 different types of wings, and a weapon selection screen. I wonder if the text on the weapon selection (the screen is shown first at full screen size) is something interesting or not. Finally one thing from the OP without a screenshot. In the last scene of the OP, the main character jumps and seems to summon his IS while falling. I wonder if that is artistic liberty, or if you can summon your IS that way. If every trained female had the ability to call upon her combat/flight/awesome suit if necessary it would explain a lot.

A 720p video clip is better than a picture (at least as long as Youtube doesn't block it): + Show Spoiler [Unlimited Musket Works] +

This!
Watched this series a few years ago and i loved it. You have to watch to the end to get the most out of it though. Some arcs in the middle may seem unnecessary but it all comes together :D

Did someone compile a list of series which have bad/weak beginnings but become bearable/good?

God damn that's beautiful.
I've been tracking the package carrying my Kyshatriya model, and it says it's in my city. It should be coming today :D

Mahou Shoujo Magica Madokagatari. <3
Also checking out Yumekui Merry; somewhat hilarious concept so far, but I'm still interested in seeing where it goes.

lol at "nobility is a disease" + Show Spoiler +Merkatz and Fahrenheit are both competent, its pretty much entirely their fault that the nobles just don't outright colapse against Reinhard. Merkatz especially, later on people comment that he is in the top 5 of the most talented admirals in the galaxy.
Has the Westerland incident (I think thats the name of it) happened yet?
Oberstein really does like strategies like assassination, but as far as Reinhard goes, his character just seems too different to want to assassinate Yang. Like, earlier in the show, after the battle at Astate, Jessica and other people were critizing the Alliance government for sending people off to the frontlines to fight while they stay back where it is safe. Reinhard is like the opposite politican from them, since he himself is always out on the frontline with his soldiers. Its one of the things that motivate people to fight for him, since he is there with his soldiers, sharing their fate. Plus, Reinhard has alot of pride, and I wonder if that pride would allow Yang to be assassinated like that. Reinhard considers himself to be the best, or at the very least has the ambition to become the best. But as you said, Reinhard is also very practical, so he might in the end allow it to happen, and go along with the "ends justify the means". Oberstein's strategies, while they may be cowardly alot of the time, are very hard to rationally argue against. Mental battles like this going on in Reinhard's head is very interesting.
It was sad when Jessica got killed. I didn't expect for her to die when she did. I always though there was going to be a romance between Yang and Jessica, but it got stopped before it really had a chance to start. Kinda gives Yang a reason for revenge against the rebels now, but will his character allow it?

lol at the latest Hayate, we finally got exactly what we wanted when this whole apartment affair started - a harem situation with Aa-tan, Maria-san and Hina all under the same roof.
