agree, that was my interpretation as well. Also:

Then Taichi jumped in and was like "you are japanese right, because your english isn't that good". LOL And then everyone was like "yeah, my english is barely middle school level". I bursted out laughing. :D

Macross 7 didn't have Idols, but it did have Rock Stars piloting transforming robots with Guitars and other musical instruments, while using music to shoot giant music laser beams to fight Lovecraftian Horrors, and heal people and shit. I don't think thats any more ridiculous than transforming magical girls for a Macross show.
And I haven't watched any Delta outside the pilot episode.

I never really said that the issue was ridiculousness. You are kinda forcing your point, my issue is simply magical girls as not being consistent. Idols in mechs no problem. Rock stars in mechs (they were shitty rockstars and yes, it was ridiculous and difficult to get through. Ive made that clear before, but atleast consistent). Also they made it so that was the only legit way to like win.
Idols utalasering mechs while floating, teleporting, dematerializing around unassisted not so consistent. Its certainly not something I would "expect". Its pure pandering regardless of how you want to justify it.
When the mechs dont matter to someone in active combat taking on other mechs. Thats a bit much for me. I get that it needs to trend a bit to be relevant but it kinda butchers Macross cant believe thats even a discussion.Call it Mahou Shoujo Macross but passing it off as an expected kind of Macross is a bit much.

that addition doesn't really bother me tbh. For me, macross has been about the music, the love story and a somewhat compelling story with mech fights. Making girls able to float around and such isn't that big of a deal imo. Overall, to me, it still retains what I loved about previous macross iterations so unless their deviations are huge, I doubt I'll be dropping this.

no, I watched SDF Macross. I can understand the frustration but as I said, to me, it's not a big change and it's pretty acceptable. lol at spoiler, might as well spare ourselves the argument then.
