Ill keep watching it because Valkyries but not gonna lie I havent forced myself through shit in years now so it gonna be a chore. You use that as evidence after youve already made the assumption. And I literally edited it in to throw you a bone and see if you would use it and its the first thing you went for. But thats besides the point. Your extrapolating a bit to far either way. | ||

If you are going to sit there and say that this is standard fare for a Macross show then thats that. I however do not agree with that and so find it disappointing and not something that I associate with this series. | ||

So I started watching Chihayafuru because of the hype in the thread. Only one episode, but... Taichi was a dick as a kid. So far. Not understanding the insane love for him yet. | ||

X Transformable Plane Mecha and Dogfights _ Love Triangles X Emphasis on Music X Deculture Now, from what I gather from Macross Delta, at least 3 of those are satisfied so far. And I'm pretty sure at some point there will be a love triangle, since its Macross, and there is always one. Those things are literally the only unifying things in all of Macross. Everything else, from First Contact, to Top Gun, to Idols, to Magic Guitar piloting, none of those things are "expected" for Macross, they are just the flavors of each iteration. And the flavor of this iteration is magical girls. Sure, its a different flavor, they all are. But it still does, or will probably do, what all Macross anime are expected to do. | ||

tbh he acts like a normal elementary kid that likes a girl, and gets jealous of other guy easily. I think he might even be most relate-able and human and normal when he's a young asshole as opposed to how he is later. (which is saying a lot b/c i really related to his position with chihaya later on) | ||

Also, Chihaya's mom and sister suck, Taichi's mom is also a dick, and I have no basis to make a judgement on Arata's parents at this time. | ||

It's not like in Hourou Musuko where half of the cast is unbelievably self-reflexive and empathetic, more so than tons of adults I know. It's realistic in Chihayafuru, I agree. That doesn't necessarily make it likeable. What he did was still a dick-move. When he grew older however, he learned and changed a lot. I wouldn't say his older self is less relatable. As you have pointed out, you can relate to him strongly, so it depends on the person. Same goes for me. I said this earlier: If I had to name an anime character I could relate the most to I would say Taichi, no doubt, and his position with Chihaya is one of the reasons. His personality later on is probably less common than his personality when he was young. So yeah, more people might be able to relate to his younger self better than to his older self (just speculation of course). But that doesn't make his older self less human imho. | ||

This brings me onto the next point. So during my 3 hours of sleep I figured something monumental out. There's a way to solve all this love crisis in Chihaya. It was right there all along. I can't believe I didn't see it earlier. So what needs to happen is Taichi x Arata first. It makes so much sense. Taichi is always thinking about Arata even when he's dreaming. The bromance turned romance. There's even the whole "i hate him but I love him" which describes love so well. Then we get Shinobu x Chihaya. Think about it. Chihaya spends every waking minute thinking about this girl. They both got this airhead weird fetish for children's shows/characters and both crazy about Karuta. They are made for each other. Everyone lands up happy. No broken hearts anything. Once again yuri saves the day. edit: Older Taichi is pretty relatable too. Haven't you ever been in a group setting or project where basically everyone is wishy washy failures and you now have all the responsibility to make this work even if you don't want to do it? That's Taichi in everything. His own competency thrusts him into these positions he doesn't want to be in but he's too nice a guy to ever just be selfish and tell the group to go fail without him. Reminds me of myself before I learnt in University that you can't be responsible for everyone, sometimes you just got to make sure you cover yourself. | ||

+ Show Spoiler [Chihayafuru s2 ep12-14] + Damn that match against First Akashi Girl's High School was tense. And they dragged it out so much... I almost felt like watching a damn battle shounen. The photographers were annoying, glad they are goners now. Although that last scene were Megumu picked the batteries instead of the SD-cards was golden. I'm so glad both Oe and Desktomu won! And in such a crucial moment. I expected either of them to win in addition to Taichi and Porky. Expected Chihaya to lose, to set up more tension for the finale where she is probably going to win. But Porky lost, damn. I think he is going to take his match in the finale. My predictions are Chihaya, Taichi and Porky for a 3-2 this time. Akihiro will lose, I admire his move in the end of ep14 though. Although he will lose, he can tell his brothers that he was fielded in the finals.^^ Shinobu was such a comedic relief all match long. And scene where Taichi opened Chihaya's hand was beautiful. | ||
