That's exactly how I react and vote on MAL... And that's why a only have -0.04 in overall score deviation. Looks like I'm really a mainstream kind of guy x)

I'm afraid you've underestimated the author's ability to write shitty plot, because that rationale doesn't hold up at all for reasons which should be made apparent soon.

Oh man, I didn't have high hopes for Divine Gate to begin with, but ep 2 was "Comet Lucifer"-level of terrible.
All the nonsensical stuff that happens, clunky exposition, cringeworty dialogue, edgy characters and overall pretentiousness on top of the failure that some may call "art style" makes this really hard to watch.

Needless to say, this show is not worth my time and will be dropped...

I've seen ranma on tv many times . Kinda not interested and besides I've watched(i'm putting it on hold but around 60 ep too) the other work of the same author namely Maison Ikkoku.
Same creator Rumiko Takahashi.
Just not interested in the genberbender aspect. Maison ikkoku is a couple of years older than Ranma and i have no problem watching it

And Gate's done. I think I can see a few different ways this particular bit of plot could go, considering the state of the Empire's culture and society.
+ Show Spoiler +The Emperor, while somewhat true in talking about governments being "soft" towards people and barbarians, doesn't I think have quite the grasp that an outside viewpoint with a knowledge of Earth history would give. Yes, barbarians have taken down empires - but never has that happened with such an immense gap in weapons power. The most powerful weapon in the Empire (barring sudden fantasy elements like tamed dragons, Overlord style magic, etc) can't even get into range of the modern SDF weaponry. I'm guessing that the SDF on the other hand at least is giving some thought to a lot of the anthropological studies which address what can happen when a technologically advanced culture meets one that is significantly less advanced.
I'm pretty sure bunnygirl has her reasons, some of which may have been hinted at towards the end, when she was helping out the person who is pretty sure he'll be the next emperor because he's done a great job of playing a fool.
