Thats like the opposite of how I see it, lol. Objectively, I think Yang is possibly one of the best written and most 'human' characters I've encountered in anime. He has his ideals and his genius, but it all feels believable and natural. Reinhard on the other hand is like an amalgamation of everything an ideal conqueror/ruler should be. I myself have been on the Reinhard side of the fence ever since I watched, but I think both are great characters. Reinhard/Yang/ + Show Spoiler + best characters.
I think you got me wrong here. I meant that I don't prefer one over the other when it comes to quality of writing as I see them both as very well written characters. It's just that I like Yang more from a personal perspective. And yes, I agree on the + Show Spoiler + one as well.

How is that supposed to correlate? One of my best friends has Ranma 1/2 as one of her favourite shows and she is like half as old as felis, lol. And I could swear Ranma 1/2 aired in the late 90s over here.

Yes, I think it was the mid-late 90s when I was watching Ranma 1/2, though I couldn't tell you exactly other than "between 95 and 99".
Something something get off my lawn something. Oh, and of course Tenchi Muyo (the OVA) and later Universe. Can't recall how I first watched them, but I do know that bandwidth was not what it is today.
Still have a fondness for A-Ko, though. I never did figure out what was up with those bracers.
Oh, and if you want to see an animated acid trip? DragonHalf. Although I think it may have been coke, not acid.

ah Ranma 1/2 the days when i used to think tsundere's are cute . And then the i watched the romcom anime's with tsunderes like a couple of years later

After asking about lewd show of the season I got visisted last night by the lewd goddess. Holy shit. OwC vol 7 sex scene is possibly the most explicit sex scene I've read and it doesn't even mention genitals.

In other news. I agree with Sent in that Yang feels like the most human character I've ever watched in anime. Just does everything about how a solider in a indefinite war would feel like. It's not about glory or honour, it's just him wanting to stay alive and seek peace. So compelling. Love both of them though.

haha it is rare enough for me (born in late 80s) to enjoy ranma, because the thing came out in 87, so i was like in my 3rd grade in primary school when it finished and somehow i picked up the manga later of my life, maybe when i was 10/11 yo. Reading manga like that helps to shape one's taste/preference lol imo. I would definitely not pick it up if i am a kid today.

After the recommendation of it some pages ago, I watched the first season of The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya. I don't quite see why it's listed as a comedy, but maybe that's just me. It's more of a mystery/science-fiction/slice of life kind of show to me. I laughed sometimes, but not often for an anime. The last 2 episodes were somewhat boring, but again, maybe I missed something.
Overall it was interesting though, but LOTS of talking. Reminded me of Spice and Wolf on that one. Not necessarily a bad thing though.

+ Show Spoiler [Overlord ep13] +I thought they actually did a decent job at ending this. I know it's kind of frustrating since there is so much to come but considering that they ended on a good note and gave a nice idea of the plans coming up next. As an advertisement for the LN it definitely succeeded imho. I think a 2 cour would have been better but oh well, maybe a second season somewhere down the line.
Decided to write a short wrap up for every series I watched from this season:
+ Show Spoiler +Watched:
- Gangsta. (4/10): Ok, this was a mess. It had a strong start with an intriguing setting but it lost momentum pretty fast and went from good to ok'ish to meh to downright shit in the end. I felt like they didn't know where to go with the story. In the beginning they tried to develop some kind of backround story behind the main characters while serving episodic pieces for the present plot. Then they tried to do...some kind of present plot? Only that it was full of unexplained things until the very end. You never got to know who the enemy really was, what their history was, why they would attack now, connections between characters were hinted at but there was nothing to follow it up, a lot of random events occurred. And then the final episode just ended in the middle of everything. In the end I'm just unable to comprehend what they were trying to achieve with it or what story they wanted to tell. - Gate (5/10): This got praised all over the place but I found it to be very...pointless. I despised how they gloryfied the army. The setting had a lot of potential but the story went over some pointless events instead and included tons of otaku pandering stuff. So yeah, while the characters were generally likeable gave a nice atmosphere it's highly unlikely that I'm going to watch s2. - Overlord (6/10): I glad I didn't drop this. The rating is mostly because the first half was so damn slow and downright bad for the most part. But the world building and encounters became much more interesting in the second half. If the was a second season with the same quality as the second half I would definitely be looking forward to it. - Ushio to Tora (7,5/10): Currently on the verge of being a really good anime for me. I really like the main duo as well as the superficial borrowing of old japanese ghost/demon tales. Now that the episodic stuff seems to be over for the most part, I'm looking forward to what they will do with the story in the second cour.
Watched with a friend via skype:
- Bikini Warriors (1/10): Poor excuse for a hentai short. I must admit that the RPG references were somewhat hilarious though. Quality in writing, animation and just about everything was absolute garbage though. - Gakkou Gurashi! (7/10): Personal surprise of the season. I didn't really like most of the SoL parts but those that served a purpose in the character development. The horror was really well done imho and it's rare to see that imho. I had this on a 7,5/10 before the last episode and put it down to 7 because I was rather disappointed by the way it played out in the end. Could have been a lot better. Still a very good and unique experience. - Himouto! Umaru-chan (1/10): Gets an award for being the most annoying show I have ever watched to date. Despite watching this together we both almost couldn't bear it. A horror sister with shit attitude disguised as a cute flawless girl, yeah right. I wished she would just die already every episode. But this wasn't nearly enough to justify the 1. The anime was poorly executed on all ends. The art was ok to extremly lazy, animation was horse shit, it was almost a full slide-show for certain episodes. I also can't comprehend how someone could seriously write a script like that and want to earn money on a serious basis (even more sad is that it apperently works...). Like randomly jumping from event to event (eating, eating more, slide show of shopping, eating again) and then they realise that there are 4 minutes left to fill the episode and just do a recap of ep1 in the end of ep10, which wasn't even relevant in the slightest. - Jitsu wa Watashi wa (7/10): I usually hate harems but I thought this one was rather well done. It didn't focus too much on the harem aspects and the main duo was pretty obivous for everyone but the couple itself... I also loved the crazy humour, I'm a sucker for that. So in the end I bumped this up to a seven. - Kuusen Madoushi Kouhosei no Kyoukan (2/10): To be perfectly honest, everything from the characters, their intercation to the story to the animation, art and sound effects was so trashy it was hilarious. We both agreed that this was the most successful choice for our "shit list" as it was so bad neither of us had watched it alone but together we just had sooo much fun. Prediciting cheesy lines, coming up with ridiculous plot points, it was just too good. So this one definitely got a bump for the high entertainment value. - Makura no Danshi (1/10): Never again. This was creepy as fuck. Like every second guy was watching you asleep before you knew him. I also don't know this show was supposed to heal someone. To me it was rather disturbing how some S&M brothers told me how I would be their slave or how a child tried to flirt with me... I also think that the phrases were done by one guy within an hour with the request to keep it as simple as possible. - Shimoneta (4/10): Nice idea but poor execution. Characters, especially villains were underdeveloped and it tried to ride on the same jokes again and again - e.g. the student council president, a problem that was never resolved in the end whatsoever. I also don't know why the story ended with ep11 and then they did a random filler as ep12 instead of a wrap-up. All in all there were still enjoyable parts and we had some good laughs while watching it together.
Dropped:
- God Eater - Ranpo Kitan - Venus Project

Yup Overlord ending wasn't bad. + Show Spoiler +Of course it wasn't quite satisfying in that there is no real ending, but who expected one? I think it's fine like this, even though they better do a 2nd season if they end it like this.

so sad this fall has like no romance anime ( i really dont get how harems are popular and shouldnt it not be tagged in romance as its kinda like a sub category or something can u really have a harem with zero affection/romance.
i think the only thing i want to watch just by looking at the ani-chart summaries is one-punch man (plus i already saw that like half subed ep1 and it was okay)
this years been very meh for me, nothing outstanding even outside of romance
|
Harems only feature pseudo-romance because every female character is forced to crave for the MC's dick by default.

KareKano, and to a degree Ouran, though it's more com than rom.

I still rewatch ryoohki now and then, that's one messed up family tree.
As for Overlord, it's what I expected as an adaptation, though last ep is lackluster for me. The show stops pretty much right before Momonga become genuinely evil.
Next novel adaptation looking forward to is KonoSuba

Don't you think it's romantic to have a dick so magnificent that females all around want it so badly they gravitate towards you regardless of what you do? That's the pinnacle of romance.

and in some cases even the male side characters

I would call that erotic or supernatural miracle of sexual desires. Definitely not romantic. Irrc romance has something to do with being overly empathetic towards someone. I wouldn't call the natural urge of animals to reproduce as being romantic, either, or would you?
Tbh, I didn't expect the Vanguard of Yuri to make such a definition for the pinnacle of romance.

imo this year's been pretty good and if fall holds up it'll have been super good minus the incredibly weak winter season
winter 2015's was saved hard by all the good left-overs from fall 2014 though

Monmonga becomes evil? Maybe I shouldn't read the lns then if he is going to start doing really evil shit like enslaving and mass murdering people.

To be honest though, to me this year wasn't really good. It didn't even produce one anime I would rate with 9, only 1-2 weak 8s and a handful of 7s (and half of them were generous) until now. We will see how fall holds up but I won't hold my breath.
|
Summer best Spring 2nd and going to be a toss up between Fall and Winter for worst. Winter was a pile a garbage on fire but Fall doesn't look much better. Ofc won't know until it actually gets started.
