However, Illya so in love with Shirou was irritating. Blonde guy is pretty annoying. And Caster is just stupid, lol. I hope Rin&Shirou reunite with Archer/Saber soon and kick some asses. Also saw Ghost in the Shell movie and Whispers in the Heart recently. GitS was great, totally kept me encaptured the whole time. I also thought the animation was outstanding. It's funny/sad how a movie animation from 1995 stomps most animations from today's series. For Whispers in the Heart, I wasn't convinced at first. But the movie just got better and better and better. The second half left me stunned. Truly amazing work. | ||

I still have my issues with him (mostly from how he treats Saber in Fate route) but I have gotten over a lot of the initial distaste I had for him. Anyway since watching the 1st episode of Yamada-kun I binged reread a lot of the manga (and the 1st volume in english was released recently!) I hope the anime can capture some of the subtitles in the characters that made the manga great. | ||

As for Shirou, he really didn't do much dumb shit in UBW arc except during his encounter with Rider. | ||

Part of the whole Fate-verse is that the characters are absolutely dead-set in their ideologies, to the point where it can be infuriating if you don't get them. There's a lot of Servants that swear by knightly honour, which means they'll follow their code above doing the smart or tactical choices. There's the Servants that are old Heroes, who are basically defined by arrogance and ego that incurred the wrath of Gods. Then there's the Servants who aren't even Heroes to begin with, or have zero interest in winning the Grail War, as well as their Masters who don't care either (or are completely clueless about the whole War to begin with). Shirou particularly is always the polarizing character, partly because he's the MC, and partly because he's just so idiotic. Of course, everything about him is basically defined by + Show Spoiler + an absolute lack of self-worth and an overwhelming need to be a protector, and the fact that commits to it so heavily that he basically breaks the laws of magic So yeah, basically FSN is not a series to watch if you want every character to be intelligent. But half the fun is the detail in all the heroes, and the reminder that the old definition of "hero" isn't the current word that's more like "role-model".
