Also, any suggestions for anime of last season? I sort of didn't have time for anything and wanted to catch up. Don't care what genre, just what people thought was good.

I read the source a bit (seems like it is short, dunno if it just got canceled or it was meant to be shorter) but it seems to be a mix of people fighting because the war has dragged on for so long so kings turn to mercs. Plus yea it was not unheard of for nobles to be captured and ransomed back in those days. But yea, its definitely ecchi, with the focus on the comedy centered around lewd jokes stemming from the experienced succubus and the naivety of the virgin witch.

If it's the former, imo that's a pretty bad way to decide what to watch. If it's the latter then tough luck I guess.

+ Show Spoiler + Well, overall that was...meh I guess? In the end all that carried me through was the comedy (especially Botan, man she is awesome). The fighting was insanely boring and that is what took most of the time. I hope the following arc is going to be as good as some people here say. I'm probably going to finish the dark tournament arc that is coming now and decide afterwards whether I'm going to drop it or not.

I know I didn't like the art back when it aired because I was an idiot who had no idea what he was talking about back then, the visuals were really good for both. The boobs were good too but like already mentioned, that probably won't ever be as extreme again.

From this season though, I've already decided to watch Death Parade, Absolute Duo, Saekano/Saikano or w/e, Rolling Girls, Tokyo Ghoul, Koufuku Graffiti. Im undecided on lesbian bears yet. We'll see how far i can go for that. I still have Boats, Assassination Classroom, Maria the Virgin Witch, Seiken Tsukai no World Break, Sengoku Musou, Shinmai Maou no Testament, and Fafnir/Fafner whichever one is not the 2nd cour mech i dont remember which one that is. Almost forgot, Im watching the short Military! and i think it's probably gonna be AoTS.

Jun Fukuyama as Koro sensei was hilarious. Lots of range and emotions and very eccentric. I like it. I coudln't figure out the main character was a boy until like half way though... I'll probably stick with it for now. It was really fun.

When I first read the synopsis I somehow assumed their teacher was a normal human. That would have been fun I guess. But then it turned out it was some kind of super alien. I dropped it already since the first episode was extremly boring to me.

I can't remember anything original from that season. Hopefully i missed something decent+.

Baka Tsuki has translations for the web novel but there is also a Light Novel version that diverges from the web one....wtf are the LN and the WN even written by the same author? Is there anyone who has looked into both have an opinion about LN vs the WN? the LN is not translated all the way through but most of the WNs are translated, they diverge at volume 5 of the LN. people say that the two diverge so widely they end up being two completely different stories, so take that as you will. I'm on chapter 105 (so less than 1/5 of the way through the WNs), but I'll give some general thoughts on the overall plot/writing style: from what I can tell, the WNs feel like they're written by a very, very immature 16 year old with a very distorted emotional view of the world; the LNs retain some of the angst but it seems to be toned down. I'm not sure if the WNs will continue this way, because I really didn't feel such a negative vibe towards the author until ~chapter 60ish. Before that point it was still tolerable within hackneyed shounen tropes. Without revealing anything from the plot, his emotional outlook is rather narrow, angry at the world, unforgiving, unaccepting of others, etc. A lot of the characterization of the MC is contradictory and infuriatingly naiive as well - says he hates a harem but the author gives him one anyways, tries to empower those that are more unfortunate than he is but approves of slavery, uses sweeping generalizations and applies them to his interactions with others, etc etc. I could go on and on but just imagine the brattiest dweeb kid writing a novel that about his experiences in an rpg world and you'll have the framework for tate no yuusha. I should also mention his interactions with the queen are quite hypocritical as well, but you'll see what I'm talking about when you get there. Hopefully in the later chapters the author grows up a bit and gets his shit together, because it's truly unfortunate that the background is so interesting but the characters leave such an acrid taste in your mouth. I honestly don't think there's a truly likeable character in the novel save for maybe raphtalia. What the novel does have going for it is the overall environment that the characters are thrown into. There's really nothing you haven't seen before - the whole 'guy is thrown into an irl rpg with a weak legendary weapon but manages to overcome obstacles and save the world!!!!' trope is nothing new really, but it's entertaining enough for me to overlook its weaknesses, regardless of how annoyed I am. this is one of the rare times where I believe an anime adaptation (if it ever happens) would be superior to its original text form - mainly because we don't have to deal with his selfish immature inner thoughts. imo danmachi is much more interesting when we compare stories with similar settings, and tate no yuusha is ridiculously overrated. I realize I bashed it quite a bit but like I said before, it's still worth a cursory read.
