I was wondering if any of you fine fellows here had recommendations along those lines, specifically involving youkai or other such elements of traditional Japanese myth. I'm thinking of starting xxxHolic myself but any more suggestions would be great. Inu Yasha classic ![]() Natsume Yuujinchou is with youkai too even tho it takes a more peaceful attempt at it, it contains a bit of fighting but most is a bit more talking

The OP music is wonderful and the ED is also very fitting. Overall a very good recommendation, thank you. ![]()

I don't think that the first two episodes are that bad, you can clearly see that they are supposed to be a prologue and not the main story (yet). The OP music is wonderful and the ED is also very fitting. Overall a very good recommendation, thank you. ![]() then you might wanna watch Baccano next, it's not really connected to Ga Rei but still great anime with a slight bit of supernatural stuff happening ^^

Every time I see Hatsune Miku live, I'm reminded of Rei Toei from the book Idoru by William Gibson. Still, it's nice to see some high quality videos of her live. The old ones on Youtube from MikuFES (iirc) were horrible. I guess I have to look for a copy of that Bluray. Also: Baccano added to the queue. ![]()

The first arc is bearable, but then it gets worse... retarded like the first two episodes of the anime, as mentioned by PH. Actually, the manga starts out retarded, then it suddenly dramatically becomes decent. This is during when the anime was released. Some elements of the backstory and setting changed to match the anime, and the manga suddenly takes an upturn for the better. It never really becomes good, but it's not bad. I'm more or less fine with having read it, and don't really feel like I wasted my time like I do with truly bad manga or anime. :o

Anyone know of other similar series? I already seen darker than black ![]() I thought the ending was too much of an cop out, but thats just me. As for recommendations, I would not unrecommend Madlax as someone above me recommended... INSANELY slow plot, don't watch unless you like a very slow paced plot development. However, if somehow you do make it to the last 2~3 episodes, the ending is quite awesome. I have a couple of recommendations depending on what you like, if you liked to action/romance blend, I would recommend Elfen Lied and Fate Stay Night, for more action oriented plots, I would recommend Noir, Gungrave, Black Lagoon, Ergo Proxy, perhaps Ghost in the Shell: SAC and Death Note, if you have not seen those two already.

On November 10 2010 19:48 Theo wrote: anyone ever seen gao gai gar and would recommend it or sum it up in a paragraph? I liked GaoGaiGar. HOWEVER, GaoGaiGar is not a show for everyone. You have to be a fan of Super Robot shows, particularly old-school Super Robot shows, to like it. GaoGaiGar was supposed to be like an "Anti-Evangelion", as in, not all dark/mature/philosophical/whatever as Eva was. It tries to say light hearted as possible. You have Guy Shishioh as your main character, who personality-wise is a standard Super Robot pilot (good guy, hot blooded, never gives up, COURAGE, etc). Similar type to someone like adult-Simon or Kamina from Gurren Lagann. There are robot transformation sequences, attack calling, and stock footage. Story wise, it isn't anything complete. Unfortunately for GaoGaiGar, it takes a while for it to start getting really good. The first 40 or so episodes are just average, "Monster of the Week" episodes, with a main central plot stringing them together. The last bunch is really good though, IMO. The best part of GaoGaiGar, is GaoGaiGar Final, though. Final is basically a sequel OVA to the show, and its very well done. As for Ga Rei Zero, I thought the first 2 episodes were hilarious. + Show Spoiler + Introduces you to two different sets of characters, only to massacre the first set, and seemingly kill off all of the second set lol

And then I couldn't watch it after Episode 3. I'll probably have to put it off until later.
