I am considering getting a CrunchyRoll subscription for my fiancée. How is the service in general, specifically the subs? She keeps eyeing it, but never pulls the trigger.
I never gave it a chance myself as the shows they're offering for people outside the US are veeeery limited due to licencing. At least last time I checked (while Railgun S was airing), could have changed but that's problably not an issue for you if the country-tag in your profile is correct?
Other than that, the subs are okayish. In particular there happens to be a "sub-group" that, instead of translating stuff themselves, just rips shows from the official sites and uploads that as torrent themselves. That's mostly stuff taken from Funimation and Crunchyroll so a lot of people are already watching stuff from Crunchyroll without realizing it. The translations are somewhat streamlined but that's to be expected if they're trying to do pretty much every show, unlike fan-subs that end up picking just a handful shows.
Can't really say anything about the service because I never tried it but the ripped subs are in 99% of the time out in time so I'd guess the source has to be as well lol
Edit: I've been on a kickstarter and I remember that when they announced they were in talks with Crunchyroll for doing subs some comments got really salty because there apparently was some sketchy stuff going on with translations that were being used without being done by them in the past? No idea if that's true tbh.

For the states it's pretty good. Most of the stuff is licensed. Take this season for example most of it is on CR with a few exceptions like Seven Deadly Sins and I think Bahamut is Funimation. If she ever watched Horriblesub rips now than the quality of the subs is going to be what she's used to. Just go for it. It's cheap and I'm sure she'll like the gesture
edit: Yea Toad CR started by taking fansubs and uploading them onto their site while making people pay I think for it. They don't do that anymore but that's partly while some people are so mad at them. I also think very little money actually goes back to the studio from them. So if you want to support an anime CR isn't the best option.

I have been pretty satisfied with my subscription. The only downside is that every season there seems to be 1-3 shows that they do not pick up and I end up using other sources to view them (like Hulu or free streaming sites).

Yeah I enjoy my Crunchyroll subscription. They don't have some older shows that I'm currently watching like Clannad, and some current ones like Bahamut. I just use KissAnime or something for those.

this was the thought i had ^^^ how are you gonna keep it a secret to ppl if you have this body pillow with a naked anime chick on it? Then i thought, shove it in the closet....then i had this picture of some girl opening up a closet and piles of naked anime chick pillows falling out on her.

Maybe I should get people dildos from now on.

I would think most creators within the anime/manga industry wouldn't want their characters sexualized in such a way but the large amount of things like those full sized naked pillows suggests otherwise.
