I actually think the point of this arc is to get them to work together. The latest episode Satsuki was like

Which suggests that Satsuki's interest in Matoi is more than just seeing her get beat up every episode.
I suppose maybe the camps are getting closer. Maybe. Iono.

depends on what you're looking for.
Log Horizon actually got decent after a couple of episodes although it's apparently a pain to watch if you read the LNs.
Strike the Blood might be something you like if you liked Index as well. Pretty straight forward and it's a bit more... well into harem or so it seems but it seems to be the kind of harem that shows like SAO have and not your IS kind of harem. At least right now.
Non Non Biyori is pretty good according to a bunch of people on irc though I'm not watching it right now, so no idea.
Kyoukai no Kanata still looks amazing and when I say looks amazing I mean "looks" and not "is". It's a one-cour and it got completly destroyed storywise for me 2 episodes ago but it's still a decent watch for imouto reasons and to have something to just plainly look nice. I don't think it's as bad as people make it out to be though, except for that one episode...
Monogatari obviously a must watch if you were into either bake, nise or neko but that's so much of a nobrainer that I guess you didn't like them.
Not sure about the sports anime'. I can't watch that kind of stuff.
Gingitsune might be something. At least it was highly praised in the thread earlier and I liked it earlier on as well but ended up dropping it somewhere down the road because it ended up being a snoozefest to me, so no idea how that's been the last 6 or so episodes.
Oh Gundam Build Fighters is probably the same as monogatari. If you're into that kind of stuff you would have figured that out yourself so I guess that's not your kind of show.

If you like dramas, pick up Nagi no Asukara. Most of the characters are very believable, the pacing is fantastic, and it's not melodramatic at all.

Ace of the Diamond is decent but the main character is hard to bear.

Sawamura is basically your standard shounen protagonist, if you find him hard to bear you shouldn't be able to watch shounen at all. With that said, for a sports manga, they do a fair amount of things with him relatively quickly. The anime just might not get to a point where it really shows simply because the manga has been going for a while and shows no signs of ending any time soon.

Sawamura is worse than most imo. For instance, Major's Honda Goro has similar characteristics but is not anywhere near as annoying. The show is Ok, regardless.

Major's development is somewhat different, what ends up happening there is that those aspects get meted out into the different parts of his career and kind of get diluted down. Sawamura has all of it pretty much concentrated and stuffed it into his first couple of months of highschool baseball career.
I don't think anyone actually likes Sawamura's character per se. But looking at it as the product of a genre and you'll see that it is a very standard and stereotypical approach, particularly for highschool baseball. Though it is a bit more focused on Sawamura and the team than how sports types are usually because the romance side is basically nonexistent.
