After stopping anime for a couple years now, I recently decided to try watching some shows again. I tried to get into a bunch but couldn't find anything I was interested in. The shows I actually liked so far are Madoka Magica and Bakemonogatari.
I was wondering 2 things: can you guys recommend me other shows that are similarly more serious and more complicated story/characters. Doesn't have to be ridiculously complicated or serious, some comedy or genre mixtures is fine, but has to be not so simple and predictable as the average anime fare. Thanks a lot in advance for helping me save time!
Also, I just started watching the 2nd season of Monogatari, and was just wondering how come it's not very popular for discussion here? It seems to be an amazing show imo, I can see it as a live action show on a major TV network.

Madoka was not that good in the departments that people said it was "AWESOME" in, but I still really liked it. I had fun watching it, so whatever.
I don't understand how you guys can vote AB over Tatami Galaxy...like wtf is wrong with you people. Oh wait I guess most of you guys haven't watched it so the jokes on you.
Texhnolyze is awesome but I wouldn't recommend it as something you just do for a "mile stone." I'd recommend it as something you sit down and think about for a long time rather than "OH I WANT MY 500th ANIME GAIZ."
Tatami Galaxy is perfect for a milestone anime because it thematically has that kind of quality. It's also got really moe and enjoyable characters, a great relatable story, gives you an emotional rollercoaster better than almost any other anime on your list with a solid mix of drama and comedy, better art than Madoka, a great OST, a great opening song, and is just an overall well written and executed story that manages to be really endearing and memorable despite its repetitive narrative.
How you guys managed to put Tatami Galaxy in 4th place honestly is really saddening. It really should be neck and neck with Texhnolyze and maybe above it considering I don't think Souma would really enjoy watching so much suffering for his 500th anime.

Monogartari has some discussion scattered throughout. Have you watched Nisemonogatari or Nekomonogatari? Those might be better to watch before the second season. Though I people seem to like Nise less than Bake.

Plus everything that needs to be said is said on irc anyways.

this pretty much. There's really not much left to say about Monogatari other than getting in here once a week and stating how awesome it is. Gets boring after a while. It's a show that's really hard to discuss in general. Edit: It does get a bit of discussion on irc but not much either to be honest other than me asking wether the new one's already out.

Well after neko shiro, I wasn't particularly compelled to try to start any talk about monogatari other than how Tsukihi is awesome in s2 and continues to be in s3. At that I think owarimonogatari part 1 is out, I should go find a copy.
EDIT - or not, weird, thought it was supposed to have released already.

(ok) - Yuyushiki (pretty good start, somewhat flat finish) - Ano Hi Mita Hana no Namae wo Bokutachi wa Mada Shiranai (not bad, but seriously fuck the male protag) Preferences include slice of life, comedy, action if art/budget is good, protagonists with a spine. Recently started animes include: - Servant x Service (dropped after ep 1. Will need convincing arguments to pick up again) - Tamayura: Hitose (reminds me of Sketchbook (boring) more than Aria (great). Considering sticking around for a few more eps before deciding to drop) - Kyouso Giga (good energy so far) Animes I am contemplating starting: - Aku no Hana (synopsis points to spineless protagonists, unfortunately) - Namiuchigiwa no Muromi-san (synopsis points to no plot/meddling humor, unfortunately) - Gatchaman Crowds (synopsis points to lame as fucking shit plot and ending, unfortunately) - Tsuritama (synopsis points to yaoi and fishing, unfortunately. But noitaminA, and I usually like noitaminA shows) Animes I started a long time ago and currently don't feel too compelled to complete. If there are any worth finishing please let me know: - A-Channel - Amagami SS - Hen Zemi - Kokoro Connect - Mahou Shoujo Madoka Magica - Sakurasou no Pet na Kanojo Please advise thanks. ![[image loading]](http://ishall.servebeer.com/misc/dancedudesanim.gif) SxS keeps getting better and better with each ep. It was a very good watch, and worth it to stick to through the end.
Preferences include slice of life, comedy, action if art/budget is good, protagonists with a spine. Anime to recommend: Tonari no Kaibutsu-kun Binbougami-ga Daily Lives of High School Boys Baka to Test
On the subject of Amagami SS. Its purely just to fanboy over your favorite girl, you could totally skip a particular girl's arc (*cough* Sanae) and not feel guilty about it at all, I did it for her in the second season. I found Morishima's, Kaoru's, Nanasaki's, and Ayatsuji's arcs to be entertaining. Could just be my bias speaking here.

Also, Mecha design was one of the few things I thought Age was decent in. I liked Age-2/Double Bullet, Clanches, Age-1 Titus, Age-3 Fortress, Age-3 Orbital, Age-1 Glansa, and Danazines. Most non-Titus first gen stuff were pretty bland/bad, most second gen-non Age-2 stuff was pretty bland, but third gen had some decent designs.

I voted for Texhnolyze.
I agree with what you say here but Tatami Galaxy had no chance of winning, so I had to vote for Texhnolyze. It's just like voting in the US presidential elections huehuehue
