If you come in here looking for "anime recommendations" then please refer to this chart before posting: Anime Recommendations (as of may 2014). We also have an IRC channel called #tladt where we all hang out. The channel is on Rizon, not QuakeNet! Feel free to check it out. TLADT discord is Discord.gg

For currently airing anime, please see Anichart.net

Are you guys watching the new season of animes that are coming out right now right away? Do they sub them that fast? Like the monogatri season 2 is like airing RIGHT now right? Or do you guys just know Japanese.

Takes from a few hours up to a day for most shows to get subbed.

I see, I will have to go find one of the sites that streams them asap then. I don't want to wait forever for hulu to get the rights for some of the new stuff ><

If you want to stream subbed anime, then go to Crunchyroll. Otherwise the alternatives are torrents and downloading it.

finding anime in the first place is actually something MAL's very good for imo.
Go there, type in what you're looking for, scroll down a little and you got a list of who subbed it and you can choose what you like the most.
Way more convenient than tokyotosho to get an idea imo.

It used to be listed under Naoki Urasawa's Monster but I guess they've since taken it down.

If you don't want to deal with torrents, go to Crunchyroll. It's 100% legal, free, and in full 1080p. Most animes are up the same day that they air on TV (with subtitles), but you usually need the premium membership (~$7/month), otherwise they are usually available within a week. Here's a chart explaining all the differences:

Netflix apparently removed a fair amount of their anime a while ago.

So I just got out of Pacific Rim. A bit off topic I know, but considering the obvious heavy mecha influence, for those of you who have seen it (or the promo materials I guess), how do you think the robot designs measure up? I know we have a handful of mecha snobs in here.

Pacific Rim was soooooooo gooooooooooooooddddd!

As for Mecha design, they were pretty average. Nothing spectacular or fantastic, that you would expect out of anime. Pretty "western" design in mechs. But the movie proves that even average giant robots can be completely awesome in the right circumstances/scenes.

Striker Eureka was probably my favorite, then Gypsy Danger and Cherno Alpha are about tied.

Not out here until next month. Why!? ):

Anyway, Uchouten had a pretty good second episode. I like the frog brother.

Yeah, I really enjoyed the hell out of it. Will probably see it again with friends if I can swing it.

Striker Eureka, despite being Australian, struck me as the most "anime-ish" of the bunch. Probably thanks to the booster wing type things on the back and emphasis on speed over clunky power. Though Gypsy Danger's plasma cannon and sword make it my fave.

It was funny, the entire time I was thinking "sword sword come on cut the hell out of these things" and then when they pulled it out I actually cheered out loud.

I wish (unrealistically I know) that the success of this movie might bring more big budget mecha into film. Imagine a Gundam-esqe style movie, you know, high speed, laser cannons, beam swords, with that amount of money and director talent behind it. Pipe dream for sure, but you can't fault a guy for wishing.

Gypsy Danger definitely had the coolest scenes my a mile. I was speaking more in terms of how much I liked their design, rather than anythign else.

I would love to see a sequel to Pacific Rim. I'd love even more to get a Pacific Rim x Godzilla Crossover. That would be awesome.

But I had like 2 lines from Noto, and it wasn't even Benten to boot. Combined with like the 5 lines from loli shovel anime I don't think I even get more then 30 seconds of Noto this week. Even if I knew she didn't even appear this chapter it was sad.

Hayamin disease going from daughter to mom clearly.

Oh well it is mostly background stuff this week, no real development, just building the groundwork. Kinkaku vs big bro felt a little bit lazy though, makes me a bit worried about next week's episode. Still, another week where PA works barely cut anything, can I actually look forward to things? If all goes well I get a good dose of Benten for maybe two weeks after all.

Oh for sure. I think I realized why I loved Striker Eureka so much, I'm fairly certain I had an AC in Armored Core 3 that was pretty close to the same design.

I want to see a Pacific Rim sequel like this: since there are no more Kaiju, people start making Jaegers for military use because old political tensions arise. But then halfway through the movie the Kaiju come back from space and we get a bunch of Earth and low orbit fight sequences, culminating with punching the mothership into the moon.

The animation/art for Dangan... is so so. Story-wise though, I'm happy that things are going. I was kind of scared of + Show Spoiler +
many episodes before first death. But I guess, with such a huge cast, it isn't hard to kill someone. Also impressed that they killed the girl that got so much screen time

This anime probably has the potential of going Battle Royale mode. I'll keep watching

SNK 14 : The animation was great for the first episodes. Now, things are degrading... Too many static images with tons of dialogues. I can't stop but think about what TLers wrote about the studio having productions issue at this point.

This episode was fine. Purple bricks episode and some others of late trost arc weren't.

Meh, there are some pretty obvious tells in Dangan.

+ Show Spoiler +
It's obvious they're going to guess the right person here, as getting wrong means EVERYONE dies. At the very least it should only be the ones who pick the wrong person.

Also the girl who died was up to something. I'm guessing she had intended to kill the lead. The story with the doornob was probably fake, and she appears to have switched their rooms somehow (as she already knew about the door handle in the bathroom, and the bathroom had a lock). They pressed she was dead quite a bit, so I wouldn't be surprised if she was actually alive.

Was sad they killed off the other chick though.
