I must admit, I haven't watched a lot of the anime. The new art direction seems really at odds with the manga. No comment on the plot because I haven't watched enough to form an opinion.

I've just seen my first anime show, the first episode of "Death Note".
Reading the premise, about the book that can kill those whose name is written in it, I figured it would be about a person who finds this notebook and very slowly and carefully decends into madness.
Well, I'm 20 minutes in and he's already insane, wants to promote himself to god-status and has killed hundreds of people.
Let's see what the future brings...
