One of my first anime was Clannad, absolutely crazy good experience that I will have forever with me, that I will remember until I die! So yeah, just pick something you look good (like clannad!) and go for it! Okay thanks. I'll give it a try. Yeah I don't know a whole lot about Anime except for my friend watches all of them, then tries to talk about it with me and I just say "Sorry man. I'm not Asian."
Then just ask your friend for rec?

The same thing happened to me. I just started by watching whatever show my friend was talking about. (which was Haruhi, but back then I thought the name of the show was "Hare Hare Yukai")
The only problem i can see from trying to watch what your friend likes is that everyone has different taste and what your friend likes, might not appeal to you. But still, sometimes its better to have someone you can to talk to, to help keep interest.
Alternatively, you can try searching around until something catches your eye and start from there. From plot to character design, something will pique your interest.
A good place to start is the recommendation list on the top of the thread.

Oh lawd Pandora Hearts 77.
Dem plot twists. You'd think I'd be tired of them by now, but... nope :D and it does fit together, but I won't deny that the one who called it "a clusterfuck" isn't wrong.

I've ordered all the manga (the ones available!)
Can't wait to receive them to be "clusterfucked"!!
In search of a new anime after Steins;Gate. I saw the anime GTO (Great teacher something). Is it just some comedy, or something more serious?

Is natsu no Arashi worth watching or should I read it instead?

Its a really good anime( I happen to be watching it right now 1 ep left), definitely recommend you to watch it. Its nothing like steins gate though not sure if thats what youre looking for.

I'm falling in love more and more with each chapter, so cute <333 I just marathoned all the chapters and I have to agree, I find it quite good. You know any others like it? Don't know any others like it, but it's pretty fucking good imo. The artist for Nisekoi draws the characters with SO MUCH SWEAT. I didn't notice until like ch 30, but every page has a person sweating cats and dogs. It's pretty hilarious. If you're into jump-style romantic comedy, I guess << Kagami No Kuni No Harisugawa >> and << Ane Doki! >> both fit the bill. Those are pretty short and ended early (probably cancelled hence the abrupt endings), so if you're looking for something more complete maybe << Ichigo 100% >> or << Kimi No Iru Machi >>. Those are the ones I remember at least... EDIT: just remembered this is anime discussion thread, pls dont ban me for manga talk :< Harisugawa was really good, KNIM is pretty hit and miss, more miss lately than not though. I'll check the other two out, thanks. The mangaka wrote himself into a corner with Harisugawa. There wasn't much more he could do with the plot after revealing the mechanics of the mirror. That, and its unpopularity, pretty much doomed the whole thing.

Manga and anime is not exactly same style as anime got the full Shinbo treatment.
Both are good, but I think the anime stand out more.

The manga was somewhat controversial because it has a lot description about WW2 Japan, especially with current situation. But I didn't find it objectionable really, considering the context.

While on the topic of manga... anyone know where I can find latest Oishinbo (Raw or English, but I don't think any trans exist)? It totally got into Japanese food but I can't find any updates since like vol 80 (vol108 should be latest). It's immensely popular in Japan IIRC but it's literally impossible to find online for some reason...
+ Show Spoiler [Hayate 378] +Wow... now that went to a weird place...

Theres plenty of controversial WW2 Japan stuff out there, I dont think a Manga about a midget and a cute ghost type thing can be particularly earth shattering.

I agree, just beware there is the perception with the manga, even though it's pretty benign.

I know Im late to the party but, I started to marathon Jinsui.
+ Show Spoiler [Jinsui 04] +![[image loading]](http://i.imgur.com/sYa4U.png) I lol'd at this part. Im loving the MC right now, shes just so nonchalant about everything, provides decent amusement for me.

Jinsui has some absolutely hilarious episodes, but it's a shame the anime as a whole is kind of meh.

Thing is, we all have our own favourite genres, but we kind of only run into them because we end up being reccomended something of that genre and watching it
slice of life, k-on, comedies azumanga, anime comedy lucky star, trashcans gundums etc.
clannad is one of the better romances of the genre (after story follows tragic romance)
Death note is a classic for beginner level mystery and drama
miyazaki films (you've probably seen these) are great entry level into fantasy genre's with less anime cliche
