If you want to read PH manga, be prepared. Any surprise in the Anime pales in front of the shocks you will get from the manga. Especially the latest chapters, it's like turning everything upsidedown. BTW, wait till you see OZ's secret, it's impossible not to feel for him.

I actually started it, the first episode was kind of messy and didn't pull me in. I take it it gets better?
Best anime I have ever watched is Noir. It is one of those hidden gems. I can't even remember how I first found it, but it is fantastic. It's like anime meets 2 chicks and 1 bourne supremacy

Baccano is in an odd spot for me. I watched Durara(ra?)! in like one day, but baccano didn't really pull me in... think I'm at episode 10 and I have to force myself to watch more episodes - I enjoy the show as I'm watching it but then I have no urge to watch the next episode... it's a bit odd.

Gotta love Kirika. She's so badass, it's like you took Nagato Yuki, gave her a gun and made her (even more) awesome. I liked that. For some reason, I always found Mireille mildly annoying, though ;/

Noir is no way a hidden gem though. It's one of the most popular shows (though MAL hates Noir for some reason... actually, MAL hates all girls with guns series for some reason).
Hidden gem for me is like... Coyote Ragtime Show, Futakoi Alternative, O Edo Rocket or Ergo Proxy but they are not everyone's cup of tea.
I will just give my standard new comer recommendation:
Last Exile (first series only, don't watch second unless you wan a lot of rage) Full Metal Panic (all of them) Fate Zero (both season, it's continuous) Air Ghost in the Shell (95 movie, Stand Alone Complex, SAC 2nd Gig. You can watch Solid State Society and Innocence after but I don't feel they add too much)

Two mahou shoujo shows that's not really mahou shojou:
Mahou Shoujo Lyrical Nanoha (A's prob best, but all 3 worth watching... when would we get Force / Vivid...) Mahou Shoujo Madoka Magica
Baccano! is one of those shows novel would make it more enjoyable, because it contains pieces of like 10 plot lines from 5 different eras. Though Wino alone makes it worthwhile.
So, I recently learned that they are remaking Berserk as a series of movies. For anyone who has seen them, how do they compare to the original series and/or the manga?
