That would be a possibility, as well as a few other series I have downloaded, or finding something else entirely.) or starting a new game of Persona 4. I'll probably heavily browse the net for a few days before I do anything.
On a mostly unrelated note, but I just have to bring it up as the entire issue enrages me, and I think would make for some good discussion, but would ultimately turn into a shitstorm, Christopher Handley was sentenced today. Won't go into the issue too much more, as this really isn't the topic, but he was sentenced to 6 months, and 8 years of probation/parole/supervision after that.
I don't know the works that he purchased. Is there like, explicit intercourse on them? Regardless, Loli IS a crime, hahaha.
Rather, loli pornography, I guess.
Anywho, the Spring season looks to be mostly split between otaku-oriented anime and seinen anime, with a couple of shoujo titles mixed in between. There isn't a particular title that stands out, but hopefully there will be some hidden gems.

Didn't watch any of these anime so far but I doubt that you can say that. Prince of Tennis is a sports anime which does is right. Of course many things are impossible in real life(what they do there) but that doesn't matter. Everything behind is, as it should be. That's not the case with Bamboo Blade. It's just completely wrong. But then again, you can't really compare Footbal, Tennis, ... to Kendo, Kyudo.
If you now nothing about Kendo, you shouldn't try to discuss this.

yeah because kendo is sooooo different from other sports
I have no idea where you get this elitism from

+ Show Spoiler [Last post off topic, I promise.] +I have absolutely no support for child pornography, nor am I all that interested in lolicon. I'm reading through his sentencing document right now, and while all of us may have some weird fetishes, I can't support his choice of reading material in the least. However, I disagree with obscenity laws in general, excluding cases of real child pornography, which as I stated earlier, I'm entirely against.
After going through this, my opinion of the guy is certainly lower, but I'm personally of the opinion that whatever his interests are, as long as they're expressed in the privacy of his own home (without harming others, of course), that's his business. They found no traces of actual child pornography, and don't believe he is at risk of becoming a full fledged pedo.
I'm just against the prosecution of drawn images, no matter how deviant they may be, they aren't real. I posted in the random news topic the other day about the Max Hardcore case; how his sentence was upheld for producing sexually deviant porn, with consenting adults, in a legal area, but was convicted because detectives in another community purchased his videos, and found them to be obscene. I just really believe there's something wrong with that, especially in today's society. I may not agree with the material in question, but to face years in prison for creating/possessing something that is vaguely defined as illegal by the community, just doesn't sit right with me.
Edit: I'm sticking to not making another off topic post, so to your post below mine... + Show Spoiler +Yeah, I can't argue that. It is a crime, as it has been prosecuted, though form what I understand, it's truly a bit of a gray area. In this specific case, if I have any reading comprehension at all, the charges for possessing the material were dropped, and the main ones sticking have to do with transporting it across borders or something akin to it.
I'm assuming your first post said loli is in fact a crime because of my signature. I "joined" the brigade as more of a joke/on a whim than anything. I don't believe that loli should be a crime, however, that doesn't mean I explicitly support it; I just feel that the time/money/energy spent prosecuting it could be better spent elsewhere, dealing with people who commit a more heinous crime than fapping to drawings. As long as they aren't deemed a threat to society (such as a similar case to Handley's, where the guy was actually a convicted pedophile), I don't see the harm in it.

I respect your opinion, and I'll let the topic rest there. To clear any possible misunderstanding, when I said that loli is a crime, I meant that in the literal sense. That is to say, someone is prosecuted and sentenced, hence the action is deemed illegal, and not how I personally feel about the subject.
On a different note, I just finished Spice and Wolf. It was an enjoyable ride, and I am sad that it had ended. Can someone recommend me a good series to watch?
I just recently made an anime list thing Here, to just show what I've seen and my general rating. The list is not complete, as I cannot remember the exact names of a lot of mecha series I watched as a child (though Raijin-ou comes to mind... oh yeah, and Da Garn. Goddamn Da Garn was so awesome). Thanks
+ Show Spoiler [response to the above response] + Actually, I was initially going to joke about Konadora's obsession/catchphrase, then I saw your signature =P. In that sense, I guess I did just that.

I really enjoyed Spice and Wolf as well. The second season didn't end all that long ago (less than a year, I'm pretty sure ), so hopefully we'll see a third season. I eventually want to read the manga, but it's always something I delay. I still haven't read Berserk, even though I watched the anime with the absolutely infuriating ending years ago.
|
Yeah, the second season just ended. I don't know how popular Spice and Wolf actually is, but seeing a Horo poster/sign/board thing in the middle of Durarara!! episode erased my fear about lack of exposure because it is not a mainstream genre.
As for Berserk, I actually didn't watch the anime, but read/is reading the manga instead. I find that the Seinen/Mature (Berserk, Vinland Saga, Zetman, Gantz, Tenjou Tengen, etc...) genre generally tends to be better on paper, at least compared to their counterparts (of the ones that actually did have anime).
|
I'm just lazy, I guess. Watching is much easier than reading, especially on the eyes. Berserk actually made a pretty good anime, imo, but they ended it on such a massive cliffhanger that it was more a slap in the face than anything. My guess is they originally intended to create a second season, but for whatever reason, never got around to it.
|
Among the light novel readers, Wolf and Spice was the big thing about 2~3 years ago, so the anime also has a ton of exposure. The manga is really behind though afaik.
Though Durarara just took every chance it gets to plug Dengeki, we saw Dokuro in episode 6, and whenever we see the quad we pretty much see something from dengeki.
Reading is way easier than watching lol.
|
The berserk anime actually didn't get very far in the manga.
Not many manga series are blessed with the full anime adaptation, many times because the anime surpassed the manga itself, like how GetBackers got a 49 episode treatment from a 39 volume manga, Soul eater finished while the manga is still going, Hunter x Hunter gets 3 more OVA series to cover some arcs, etc etc.
I think Full Metal Alchemist is the only series to have ever had a remake once more manga material came out.
This makes me a very sad panda, and I fear for the new Nurarihyon no Mago adaptation coming up, since they have even yet to break 100 chapters.
Edit:
Oh, good to hear Ecael. Coming to the rescue as usual, eh?
|
My purpose in this thread is to jump in whenever I can tie something to the original work in light novel or VN, then say how the anime sucks in comparison to the original to get Shauni to post and disagree.
Anyone read Breakblade? Randomly got into it recently, quite an elaborate cast for something that's focusing so much on the fight scenes, I am rather curious how it'll turn out. Just found out that it is due for OVA releases too.
EDIT - They are having an anime adaptation for that (EDIT 2, I meant Nurarihyon no Mago) ? Going to be another Nabari no Ou probably.
|
Yup, been reading Breakblade-- well, what little there is that has been translated. I thought it will come out in movie segments like Kara no Kyoukai.
and of course the original material is better! > : )
|
6 vols out in individual vols so far, with the individual chapters another good 1/2~1vol ish in chapters, I think.Sigun is great, though I am really curious to see what Cleo's function is. She is getting an awful lot of attention, but no actual function. How far along have they managed to translated?
I think I saw that it'll come out in movie segments, but unlike Rakkyo, there aren't any kind of natural breaks for it. 4 or 6 episodes was it? Probably the easiest way is to find Megami scans
On the matter of Wolf and Spice, vol 14 just released like 3 days ago, it is kicking ass on Amazon.jp
|
20 chapters have been translated, so ~4volumes. I feel that the natural breaks are there-- the action sequence so far hasn't been continuous, but rather a big build up then a resolution, e.g. Zess's offensive.
I still don't know what they're going to do about Sigun being married. If you know the answer, don't tell me, though I hope they don't just kill the king off or something. As for Cleo... IS SHE REALLY 12?! WTF, I know I just had a discussion about Lolicons, but she can be like, over 20 in other mangas -_-.
I love how it's Wolf and Spice for the novel and Spice and Wolf for the anime. Well, not really, I just find it ironic. Of course, every title in the anime would then go Wolf and X.
|
Yeah...the thing about Wolf and Spice being Spice and Wolf...well, I don't know. It puzzled me when I first saw it, and I haven't seen any kind of satisfactory reason as to why it got flipped.
I guess Cleo is 12, since everyone says so. Guess they are going to play out how things are in that nation maybe. So weird though, her mom looks about normal, and her grandma actually young for someone who has grandchildren. Yet Cleo is 12 and...and...and...I am just at a loss for words. She is a complete mystery to me though, such a disproportionate amount of attention to function.
With Sigun, we've seen multiple times that the marriage is something done for convenience really, neither Hozel and Sigun wears the wedding band, they sleep in separate rooms, etc (it is so obvious that I can't tell whether Lygatto is dense for the sake of development or purposely ignoring it). I thought it was kind of interesting that the mangaka doesn't leave things vague for the most part, but instead opted for completely shutting the reader out from information. That leaves a lot of room for the history to develop. But yeah...as to what will be done with her, my intuition has it that Hozel will die, but the amount of characters getting dumped in as of vol 6 makes that a guess without any foundation on reason.
|
I agree that something is probably going on inside Athens. She's probably going to discover what it is and join Lygatto and co... maybe. Don't exactly like her character. She's been sticking out like a sore thumb, even more so than Lygatto and his lack of magic. I really hope the author develops Narvi's character a little bit more.
Lygatto isn't exactly the most perceptive guy there is. I really don't think he's feigning ignorance. The series uses the character's actions to develop their personality, rather than the back story, so I don't really know what to expect. As you've said, the author seems to just cover the whole thing up.

I'm also glad I stayed with the series . It's really turning out to be a favorite of mine. I find it similar to the series of novels ASOIAF by author George RR Martin.
Are you current with the show?
