I'm watching Darker than Black right now...this series is so weird, but still somehow maintains my interest...

Thinking of it... I have too many aversions... no wonder I can't find animes that I like~ I haven't seen the ones you listed, but your description for what you wanted seems to jive perfectly with ARIA.
If you don't like girls in your anime, then you'll probably have trouble with ARIA, however. The vast majority of the characters are female, and all the main characters definitely are. However, it's not one of those harem-type casts, there's no fanservice, and it wasn't written directly for a horny/otaku male audience.
As far as science fiction goes...that's just the setting. The show itself doesn't really involve itself deeply with it. It's the backdrop with which the episodes' plot arcs move to. The stories themselves are generally very independent of it.
I really like ARIA, but I never finished it. The show literally doesn't move (there's no real overarching plot in the show, besides the background one), which is problematic for someone like me who likes to binge several episodes per sitting. :X

Get through it just to get to there. It's different, but it definitely hit nearly everything I wanted on the head out of that show.

which is problematic for someone like me who likes to binge several episodes per sitting. :X Yeah, that's almost impossible with Aria... the best way to watch it is to watch an episode just before you fall asleep.
Although I know a guy who marathoned it... not even sure how that's possible though.

I decided to check out Aria after seeing some wallpapers of it with really nice art. I saw around 6 episodes of it while playing Fire Emblem. Despite being distracted, I bored of Aria so rapidly that I haven't been able to touch it since.

I marathon'd Aria, and that's after I watched it the first time 8 episodes at a time, like. It moves just fine...to me only, maybe
The current direction Hayate manga is going is pretty good for me, I'd so much rather see Aa-tan and Hina instead of Nagi, that and I just need more parodies with Seitokai novel releasing so slowly.
DtB OVA, excuses for people to dress Yin up, and she looks glorious.

mrmin knows all the good animes :D

Considering that the manga is still in the middle of + Show Spoiler +, they'll probably need to run ahead with their own take on how things would turn out. I despise filler. It's probably a side effect from when I used to watch Naruto and Bleach. Having a few breather episodes is absolutely fine, but when half of your season is effectively filler, that's a little ridiculous.
Apparently they're making a manga of Eve no Jikan. Not sure how I feel about that quite yet. It just seems like they're milking this story for all it's worth.

Just DO NOT watch Solid State Society. Just DON'T.
It's not bad by itself, but it destroys one of the things that made SAC2 so awesome.

It's not bad by itself, but it destroys one of the things that made SAC2 so awesome. The first part of the movie was cool...the action was good. The last part of the movie was interesting...when they caught the guy and the major dove into him...for a few minutes.
But everything in between was complete utter garbage. -_-

+ Show Spoiler +That's only one of the reasons why the movie sucked, sadly.

+ Show Spoiler [GITS] +What's worse is when you realize that they've come back from the dead twice.
On a totally different note:
At first count, there's five shows and three OVAs I think might be okay. I'm gonna kill myself watching all of this.
