Well it's a slice of life anime, it's not supposed to have guns blazing or relationship problems every other episode. Natsume Yuujinchou has a pretty boring plot but it's fun to watch. Except Natsume is actually good and doesn't settle for mediocrity like Hyouka does? Pretty funny that for a supposed Shoujo manga, Natsume manages to get a lot more milage out of what it covers and is still a good work without it feeling dragged out. Hyouka on the other hand is a relatively short LN series with an anime that won't even cover up to all of it and sells purely on animation quality, with little redeeming quality of its own. No one is asking for guns blazing or relationship problems, the former we call shounen or seinen, the latter is shoujo (oh hi Natsume). I am not asking for the sol portion to be on par w/ Aria, nor am I asking for the mystery to be the kind of 'authentic' mystery that some fans of the genre would ask for. I am saying that for both of the genres it covers, the work is thus far pretty underwhelming quality wise. The characters are well used archetypes at best and stale to boring at worst. What do you get out of the series? Tsukihi had like 5 hairstyles in her OP itself. iirc all mentioned in nise vol 2, though purely as past hairstyles. She has went through at least 1 hairstyle per book now though.
That's just because Natsume is just that good. Every episode was something to look forward to.

Except no one is actually talking about how good the mystery is or how soothing the SOL is. So you know why they are watching it, but I guess the excuse to rant is justifiable.

The reason the first 2 are terrible routes (I would argue just skipping them would provide more enjoyment cause they're that bad) is the writers basically were like "awesome we made this amazing Riho route...now we need other girls. Nah, too much work." Rimu and Yayoi "routes" are short, boring, and have zero effort put into them. As for who they are, don't see why you'd ask as you'll find out as you play but Kanade = childhood friend, Riho = only interesting girl, Yayoi = your "teacher", Rimu = airhead idiot.

I'm watching quite a few this season, but... not much that stands out except for FZ2. I like Jormungand, which is decent action and Koko is loco, yeah! But other than that... Uchuu Kyoudai (Space Brothers) is supposed to be good according to my friends, and... Acchi Kocchi is just... your weekly dose of cuteness.
Edit: and yeah as mentioned above, kids on the slope (Sakamichi no Apollon) is also good, though I'm not a fan of the development of the last few episodes. Too much romance, too little jazz, you know.
Oh, and what should I watch... Higurashi or Another? I feel like watching people die.
