Dont think the equivalent exchange theme is given anymore credence than in Brotherhood, It just comes to the fore more because the sequence of events is pushed into motion by Dante wanting a Philosophers stone. Events are centered more around the primary characters and people close to them. Thats pretty safe and perfectly viable for something prepared in a limited time frame.
Honestly thats just over analysing the original and Brotherhood and their "themes". Dont think the original show had anything that serious in mind. Maybe if they did it wouldve been better.
"Growing stronger with our interactions with others" is like cookie cutter stuff as far as themes are concerned. Not even worth mentioning. The plot of Brotherhood is certainly more elaborate, but its not easy to come up with a plot as elaborate as Arakawa did who had the better part of a decade to revise and adjust what direction she wanted to take with it.
All that considered original show is pretty good. Not as good as the Brotherhood no. But still pretty good.
Jormungand 1
Seemed an ok show. They did cut alot of stuff but dont care what route it goes really I think itll be entertaining enough. Shizuka Itou was okish (wasnt quite what I was hoping for, but thats just me projecting) as Koko.

Jormungand 01:
was ok, animation quality could be better (the 3d vehicles first and foremost, maybe i am too pampered from fate zero) but it looks decent enough, storywise it is a bit all over the place cutting dialogues short to fit more action in, all in all it seems a bit like gunslinger girl mixed with black lagoon, but not as good as them, i think a lot of it will depend on if they only want to make a cool show (stereotypes there, gags there) or if they want to make more character developement other than having the kid smile once a while.
also... how pale can you make a character?! XD

The original anime's ending for FMA was just a complete and utter mess compared to FMA: Brotherhood.
I still to this day believe Death Note is overrated. Don't get me wrong, I definitely enjoyed it but I didn't feel it was a 'genius' piece of work.

Death Note was really good. After reading the manga, the ending was pretty acceptable as endings go, but it just seemed to peter out once + Show Spoiler +. Instead of seeing the epic showdown play out as we might hope, you see a hubris-driven meltdown that is hard to believe based on what we saw from the beginning of the series.
In that sense though, you could say it's different and original. Instead of the series being modeled as a game of chess... the game is only the beginning. There's always a bigger game, and no matter how smart you are you can't win them all....

Why are all the dudes from Xing so crazy OP? I thought Wrath was pretty OP. Father dude > all I mean that I was surprised at the Xing dudes being so important to the storyline because the original 2003 series + shambala had such narrow worlds with no conception of other countries. Ling Yao/Greed was so badass I can't believe he was cut from the 2003 series. Also the may/al and winry/ed relationships didn't even exist in the 2003 version. And the ending of the 2003 version + Show Spoiler + was pessimistic and dark as hell. Even with Shambala tying up the lose ends of that universe, it was extremely depressing that the two brothers were thrown into a completely different universe and that all the people they loved and were fighting for were gone to them forever. What to watch next.... Have seen almost everything that looks to have decent animation on the header link... FZ isn't done yet, so I'd rather not get into that. I'm primarily interested in the Action/Comedy/Romance genres and am looking for something that has 1.) good art (post-2000 lens/animation technology), 2.) solid storytelling (consistent universe, unity, plausibility), 3.) thorough character development (Loved Ouran High and Haruhi 1. FMA brohood, lucky star), 4optional.) self-containedness. (Thought railgun was solid, but getting into the entire index series seemed too overwhelming...) 5.) finality. (I want to be able to get to the end!) For now, my queue is Guilty crown, High school of the dead. Lucky Star and thorough character development? What? Konata has to be one of the most iconic characters of all time in the anthology of anime. Give a situation and you can imagine exactly what she would do in it as though she were living, breathing. That's what I mean by character development.
But character development refers to a character changing or growing throughout the course of a show, which Konata does not.
I can't really argue about her being iconic, as it's probably true. Then again, many, many characters could be considered iconic.
Predictability doesn't exactly make her like a living breathing person. Usually you can predict what any character would do in a situation after you get to know them.
I think you meant you liked her because she was a consistent/believable character.

To be fair, Light wasn't all that smart. He had a book that killed people and left no trace of him being the murderer.
And he still got caught.
Though it was original.

the thing with deathnote is, it is all about rules and absolutes, but then at the most convenient time, it breaks with it hard and loses a lot of its appeal.
|
I really appreciated death note for the insane game L and Light were playing. It just kept getting wilder and wilder. After+ Show Spoiler + it did kinda lose that and I just watched it because I wanted to see the ending. Although if the first part hadn't been there then the second part still would've been pretty good. Just in comparison it's pretty boring.

So High School of the Dead is really bad. The art is decent. There doesn't appear to be any real story. The characters are largely irrational. The universe and zombie setting isn't really self-consistent or plausible given its premises...
Examples: + Show Spoiler + On Air Force One: "WHO LET THAT THING ON HERE" + Show Spoiler + "So this gun is strapped to your chest. It's not caught or anything, but instead of having you shoot it or taking it off of you, I'm going to shoot while it's still strapped to your chest anyway so your boobs can dampen the recoil." + Show Spoiler + "I'ma get drunk and distract you while you're keeping watch cuz it's not like our lives are on the line." + Show Spoiler + It's the end of the world, but I'm still a woman, so don't look while I'm changing. + Show Spoiler + Some of the characters appear to have a brain, yet nobody thinks of the obvious idea of getting a speaker to play loud sounds periodically in an unreachable situation. In prior episodes, they do retarded things like personally running up into crowds of zombies and banging on walls and railings to direct the zombies from their friends... In episode 9, they use tape to get a bike to drive around in circles. Why didn't they think to put a boombox on an unoccupied rooftop and just have it blare loud music? + Show Spoiler + Oh hey, we've got access to this easily defensible maisonette apartment with a full fridge of food and an impressive stockpile of weapons and munitions. Better move on in the morning and leave 95% of the stuff behind, because you know, whatever. + Show Spoiler + None of the ecchi scenes have any romantic tension to them or have any plot function. Half of the screentime in this anime is just close-ups of breasts bouncing around. Though the sheer absurdity of some of these scenes might be this anime's redeeming quality. In episode 8, for example, a bullet flies through the air and somehow goes over the right breast but under the left breast of one of the girls while she's doing a back flip or something... That's so absurd it's .gif-able.
Basically it takes the cheesiest motifs from ecchi and the cheesiest motifs from zombie flicks and makes something even cheesier. Maybe the ending will be better.
So far I'm enjoying this though in the same way that I enjoyed the Twilight movie enough to watch it twice in theaters. It's so bad that it's good.

Muv-Luv Alternative so gooooood, just finished my 2nd run recently. The main issue is having to go through Muv-Luv Extra and Muv-Luv Unlimited first (mainly Extra is the one that gets a lot of flak), which are each about 10 hours, though if you enjoyed the light-hearted parts of Clannad, that's basically Extra so it should be fine. At minimum you'll need to do the 2 main heroine routes in Extra (10 hours + 1 hour re-run) to unlock Unlimited and then 1 playthrough of Unlimited (10 hours) before beginning on Alternative, but so worth it. Each additional route you complete in Extra will have minor effects in Unlimited (and Sakaki's route felt really really Clannad-ish). Alternative = ~40 hours, linear gameplay.
Ever17 and F/SN both very good as well.

It's basically the epitomy of Ecchi so don't expect any good story and motives. If you're not watching it for boobs and skirt shots then you shouldn't watch it at all.

So Ano Hana is probably the most beautiful anime I've seen in a while. Great storytelling, beautiful concept, really heartwarming characters and relationships. And probably the warmest intro song I've heard in years. Really makes me look back at what I missed out on in my youth and what I could have said to people I cared about and drifted away from before it was... too late. Treasure every moment boys and girls

everybody I know says that the HOTD anime is just pure fanservice, I mean what do you expect from an anime adapted from a Manga with 25 chapters at that time? Even the director of the anime said that he wanted to put in as many booby scenes as possible ( you can find that statement on sankaku ).
The manga does have a lot less ecchi and service elements. It is currently on a hiatus probably because the authors have no clue how to continue it but it is still an enjoyable manga as far as I am concerned. The story really is nothing unique but I like the characters and especially their attitude towards the "apocalypse" meaning that they dont all turn into depressed emo kids all the time.
