I've always struggled to find anime I really enjoy, I put on Bleach last week and said what the hell and I'm episode 225.
I guess I'm a loser from everything everyone says

Also Baccano is very good, but as znf mentioned, the plot is a bit meh. I'd stick to it with a few more episodes, to see if you change your mind.

Don't bother with Yayoi or Rimu though. Kanade isn't bad but pales in comparison to Riho. At the moment it's definitely strongest writing/story I've encountered in a VN, and that's saying a lot considering how critical I usually am with these things. Writing, presentation, everything was just spot on for the main route (I hear the others are not so good, which drags down the game's rating, which I hereby call the Little Busters/DEARDROPS syndrome).

It's also the only anime I've ever seen where I recommend the dub over the original voices. The English voice actors really nailed the 1930's Americans (stereotypically at least), whereas them speaking in Japanese seemed odd to me. Thats probably what I needed to do since I listened to the original ones. But lucky for me, I have dual audio for that series, woot!

Ling Yao/Greed was so badass I can't believe he was cut from the 2003 series. Also the may/al and winry/ed relationships didn't even exist in the 2003 version. And the ending of the 2003 version + Show Spoiler + was pessimistic and dark as hell. Even with Shambala tying up the lose ends of that universe, it was extremely depressing that the two brothers were thrown into a completely different universe and that all the people they loved and were fighting for were gone to them forever. What to watch next.... Have seen almost everything that looks to have decent animation on the header link... FZ isn't done yet, so I'd rather not get into that. I'm primarily interested in the Action/Comedy/Romance genres and am looking for something that has 1.) good art (post-2000 lens/animation technology), 2.) solid storytelling (consistent universe, unity, plausibility), 3.) thorough character development (Loved Ouran High and Haruhi 1. FMA brohood, lucky star), 4optional.) self-containedness. (Thought railgun was solid, but getting into the entire index series seemed too overwhelming...) 5.) finality. (I want to be able to get to the end!) For now, my queue is Guilty crown, High school of the dead.

Yep, just yesterday I finished the originals having watched brotherhood a few weeks before. Originals is overall just alot darker, brotherhood has more a + Show Spoiler + and they live happily forever after ending. According to your points. I could recommend tengen toppa gurren lagann, it's mech anime but even if you're not into that give it a shot. Maybe Deathnote, cowboy bebop? These are all pretty well known anime though so you might've seen em already.

That makes a lot of sense. I'm really disappointed in the anime writers, then, at what they managed to come up with. Stories aren't just a sequence of events strung together... The whole "one is all, all is one" theme gave the manga version a lot more structural and narrative unity. The anime/movie writers seemed to be overly fixated on the single theme of "equivalent exchange," which it seemed like the manga's whole point was to debunk and demonstrate that life isn't a zero-sum experience... that we go stronger with our interactions with others. Konata has to be one of the most iconic characters of all time in the anthology of anime. Give a situation and you can imagine exactly what she would do in it as though she were living, breathing. That's what I mean by character development.
