Was planning to go to one or more concerts this summer but plans to go to Japan didn't work out ;_; If you go to Animelo, Nana is NOT going to be there this year. Instead, she will be at Animelo in Shanghai in October. First overseas event! Hoping for U.S. soon. The last concert in September will be pretty epic though.

All this talk of Japan makes me want to go back again.

Ah, Chihayafuru was such a beautiful anime.
It was good from start to finish. One of the very few animes that I kept up with, consistently, on a regular basis.
I was kinda debating whether they should have a second season or not. But with the way things ended, I feel very content and left with a nice sense of closure.
This is easily a recommendable anime to anyone who likes "slice of life".

Did I just miss people creaming their pants over the LB anime announcement or is it not really that popular ? At the very least I expected CG master Blasty to have something to say . As for Another, I actually did think they look alike and assumed (incorrectly at the time) that they were the.same person, at which point Ecael pointed me to the credits and it seems saved me some time. So uhh thanks.

I don't know what studio is doing LB so I am refraining (snicker) from getting excited over it. For all I know it can be PA Works again.

Wouldn't it be Kyo-ani?

I've totally missed the announcement because I was too busy either watching Shana or MLG/playing SC2

Rebs I thinking a lot of people aren't creaming their pants because they know it will be very difficult to construct an anime that properly reflects the VN's experience.

same way people do VN adaptations for all the other VN's out there? o.o
(clannad, stein's;gate, school days, chaos;head, clannad spinoffs, etc were all VN's before the anime)
pick a route/main route and animate it. x2 would pick another route and animate that ... etcc
o.o

That's the problem. I guess they could do Rin 1/2 -> Refrain in 26 episodes. Maybe even 13 but that's pushing it.
|
School Days actually didn't really do other routes, it had some events that weren't from that bad end but ended up mirroring just that specific route. S;G and C;H both only have one route, only one that actually applies here would be Clannad. With Clannad they have it easy in that the plot had little issue in going through all routes like that, LB has a bunch of random smaller details with the individual routes that makes it rather hard to stuff them together. Setting up properly for Refrain would also be hard tbh.
In terms of storyboarding...well, the only thing that managed a story of that complexity from an adaptation recently would be OreTsuba, which turned out to be quite well designed. They'll likely have to ignore the individual routes, go with the basic slice of life episodes to build character for the non-LB members and then go right into Rin1, 2, Refrain.
|
@rebs you caught me on my mahjong day out so I completely missed the announcement. But I. Am interested to see how they can pull something like that off, as ecael refers it, a storyboard nightmare. Well OreTsuba was one even though it came off alright I guess.

So, I really enjoyed the conclusion of Another. It was much more elegant than anything I had thought of. However, I have one last (completely unrelated) question for Ecael.
+ Show Spoiler +Was this in the book? If so, is there an explanation to it? This screenshot is from episode 1 during the elevator scene.

Typical Asian thing, in Chinese and Japanese the number 4 is read similarly to death, so a lot of places like hospitals don't have a 4th floor.

I didn't know what people meant when they said storyboarding it as an anime would be really difficult. Then I played it and was like oh...yeah that's not really going to work as an anime. Animating it is not a problem if all you want is some random heroine route and her ending; getting an emotional reaction to refrain that rivals that of the VN is very difficult to set up for. My guess would be pretty much the same as Ecael's. Well, I look forward to see how it's executed but don't have any high expectations. Would gladly see something that surprises us all of course.
