There are definitely points where you can't call it anything but that, though I'd have to say that unlike k-on it has more substance. That and I love my parody, so I am naturally biased ![]() As for it being serious, I personally think it is a nice touch. Just nonstop moe and fanservice and lols kind of wears one out. They aren't trying to play it up too much and more often than not we are just given fair character development, one could definitely had it worse Railgun is good for me, but then again, I greatly enjoyed Index novels. If all I have are the animes I might complain some though. Blacksmith is actually fairly entertaining...again in novel form, anime is kind of just amusing me, and I get more Lisa. The pacing simply felt better there. There characters are far from well constructed, but they aren't bad either.

Ah yes... The last great hurrah for the cyberpunk genre... Brilliantly done too. Now that I think about it, most cyberpunk anime/movies are generally well done. Maybe a few exceptions, but I haven't found one that just sucks or doesn't get the genre.

Also, watch Akagi if you haven't seen it (also just rewatched) and also very awesome. I've been watching it because of the posts in this thread haha, but I don't get it. x_X; The overabsurdities are an enormous turn-off to the series as a whole, but a lot of people like it? :x Am I missing something, or? OH and I was just about to write this but people who don't watch it currently should pick up Letter Bee (Tegami Bachi). And Nyan Koi to a lesser extent. Didn't notice a ton of discussion on those two in the small amount I was catching up on reading haha. ![]()

Post apocalyptic, sci fi cyberpunk epic quest with kawaii, usagi, mouth organ playing robot is a winning combo. I'm surprised people like ergo proxy. It had an intriguing sci-fi concept for a world, but the overall pace was slow. Just nothing seemed to happen, there were mysteries but they were just confusing and I didn't really care for the answers. I stopped watching before what I assume is the last few episodes + Show Spoiler + Vincent finally reaches the city where he came from only to find nothing there and heads back, the person/robot who kept his memory having been killed, though he didn't know the robot held his memories.

I can see why you would think nothing might have happened plot wise, but honestly, the show was about Vincent's journey to find himself. You don't need to interpret it as a cyberpunk anime if you want to put a very psychological aspect on it, yet you can also interpret this anime within the realm of the idea set forth in... ... Actually I can't think of any prominent examples where you have this idea of a supposed utopia running throughout. GitS kind of plays on this aspect, but it falls more into the Lain camp on this in my opinion. In any case, the beauty of Ergo Proxy is the variety of interpretations and how you view Vincent's journey across the frozen sea. Not to mention it has a multitude of references to other works and ideas that I found absolutely fascinating. My view might have been biased a little by the Shinsen subs version that had detailed end notes (they might be present in all, I dunno) on the various little quirks mentioned in the story. The only one I remember catching was the reference to Ophelia from Hamlet in the episode where + Show Spoiler + they stopped in the empty city to stock up on supplies, but they found a Proxy there.

Infidel Both are awesome, but Utena does kind of stretch it out a bit, and you'd need to have a high tolerance for low production values, as it was budget TV show made in the later half of the mid-ninties when money was tight and there was no digital technology yet to make up for the deficit. They're classics for a reason and stand quite well on their own merits though, and certainly are worth watching for more than just to "get a perspective for those days", unless you abhor their respective genres/show types for some reason. As for Nanoha, S3/Strikers is a trainwrecked piece of trash that had terrible writing and a budget the size of the first season, except that it had to be streteched out over twice as many episodes. Spare your time and watch something else instead, you'll thank me later.

![]() Neither of them are horrible, yeah, but their status as classics are by far more due to the fact that they are landmarks rather than them being good. I am simply critical of them, even knowing what it is like back then, I felt like the production could've gone better. Especially Nadesico, blessed with Ruri and not doing enough with her. (No, a movie, a game, and something like 4 volumes worth of light novels isn't enough)

Also, I got through to like episode 5 of Chrono Crusade but find it incredibly boring. Does it get better?

Art is gorgeous and so detailed. + Show Spoiler + Story starts very strong, transitions were a little iffy though. Sad that the Tono and Akari weren't reunited, but I guess that was the whole point of the story. I think he could have easily implemented another scene between the last two episodes. Music was so mediocre. It sounded like the kind of cheap session composer music you get in any TV drama.

![]() Trailer This shit is pretty awesome. A warning though, there's only one 30 min episode (google for it). And it doesn't really feel conclusive. Apparently one guy animated the whole thing. They're banking on this getting popular enough to make more.

Cencoroll was...weird as hell. Supercell is awesome though. I am not really sure what to think of it to be honest. It looks like it has a degree of following, though whether that'd translate to more is a good question.
