Shakugan no Shana S (first episode) is out, next is February - + Show Spoiler +Series of four (unrelated? I think?)OVAs
Shakugan no Shana-tan G (first episode) is out, the next is likely the same time, although that's more of "When it shows up, I'll find it somehow" sort of thing for me Whetheras anything main-series related I actively look for/wait for/look forward to etc etc.

when was SnS S out? I didn't see o.o
are the subs out?
|
it was out like a week ago, there are subs out yes, and the episode itself was.... meh?
|
The new OVAs are called Shakugan no Shana S or something, iirc. Should've been released and subbed some time ago though.
As for season 3 of SnS...eh, can't care less. One of the least interesting long-running light novel series for me.
Bakemonogatari worked out very nicely in spite of how the author never intended for it to be animated (yes, that's why Hachikuji makes nonstop meta jokes about getting animated), does make me wonder how some of his more animation-friendly series would work out.
With SoRaNoWoTo, k-on resemblence is just fine, main character looks like Ui, Ui gets her well deserved attention, I am all for it. :p

So is nobody watching Winter Sonata? I don't really know why I'm watching it, maybe it's because it's been adapted from a popular K-drama that I haven't seen and has cast the actors from the series to do the voices, or maybe it's because I'm a little girl inside. Who knows?

I have finally watched most of Welcome to the NHK and it has become one of my favorites. It is incredibly funny but the characters are way too easy to relate in a negative way. Not that I am an otaku or hikkikomori but it is very easy to understand their way of thinking.

I finished watching Black Lagoon a few days ago. It was nice to sit down and watch an action anime that didn't suck and wasn't full of annoying shonen garbage.
Can I get some recommendations for other similar action series sans shonen?
|

Would you recommend the English dub or subtitles?

There's nothing wrong with the Japanese dubbing...except in the last arc. Three of the four main characters aren't supposed to be able to speak Japanese, and you're to imagine them speaking English throughout most of the show. However...they end up doing a lot of weird transitioning between badly pronounced English and Japanese in that last arc (which takes place in Japan).
That gets REALLY annoying.
But once again, I have no idea what the English dubs are like.

As long as the characters mouths are moving, it really doesn't matter, that's English dubbing.

Oh my goodness, please give me some suggestions. I searched around using ANN's genre search thing and I ended up somehow trying the Gantz anime.
What the fuck is that garbage? It's as bad as DBZ with the event stretching, but on top of that it doesn't even make any fucking sense!

Gantz never really makes sense, even when you read the manga's 300+ ongoing chapters. It's just bloody and gross. Kind of a guilty pleasure not something you're proud to read but you do anyways. The anime stops following the manga after the Temple arc, though it doesn't sound like you watched the whole thing.
Not sure what genre you're aiming for, but I highly recommend Baccano. Though it can be confusing
Baccano has some supernatural elements set mainly in America's 1930s gangster years and is very similar to the movie Pulp Fiction in that there is no main character and it jumps around time. You can't really judge off just the first episode as it really is like Pulp Fiction in that it gives you many fragmented stories that you will piece together. Better in dubs in my opinion because of the American setting and you get accents with dubs.
