We also have an IRC channel called #tladt where we all hang out. The channel is on Rizon, not QuakeNet! Feel free to check it out. Sometimes I feel like I'm missing a great medium, but there is so much stuff out there, that makes it hard to weed out the crap and watch the good stuff. Is there any series you'd recommend for a "beginner"? I'd be glad for PMs, since I don't want to derail your thread. Thanks! The mod note at the top of the page has some great suggestions for a beginner.
The mod note is good when you know a little bit about anime, but for a complete newcomer it's probably just confusing.
To answer caruso: Studio Ghibli movies are often a great start, there are several other really good movies as well that can be found by looking around a bit on http://anidb.net/ Movies are nice since they don't require a heavy time investment and they usually have great production value. Just be careful to avoid movies related to series since they usually are heavily overrated.
Death Note is a very popular gateway anime as well.
If you are looking more for action you should be okay by just looking at the action column of the mod note.

First anime I ever watched was original fma dubbed. It's a great start imo.

For Rance's child - + Show Spoiler +It's Pastel's (Queen of the Kalar) daughter--she's Reset if you've seen the cast list. It hasn't actually been that long since Sill froze.. under a year IIRC. Kalars only take a few months to give birth and Pastel has accelerated growth. What happened was Rance snuck into the Kalar village and raped Pastel. It becomes a plot device where Pastel curses him so he can't H anyone under level 35 and when he does, they go back to level 1. Reset is real cute though. She even Gahahaha's. ![[image loading]](http://i.imgur.com/drXHE.jpg)
For Suzume - + Show Spoiler +Suzume dying is a part of the story. She becomes a ghost and can "combine" with Kanami to form a super ninja. She leaves a note and disappears after a plot event.
Rance won't H anyone under 15 and prefers them between 15 to 29, which causes Copandon some grief.
I really hope Rance doesn't end at 10. ;o;

It helps when you say what type of anime you are looking for. Just like how TV and Movies have different genres, from drama, to romance, to action, to comedy, anime is the same way. Its not like anime is a one flavor fits all type deal.

Also ehh, Rance ending at 10 feels like a good place to stop. At least far as plot goes. They can still just do random things with the Rance cast, just that extending the plot too much is gonna be pretty annoying.

Or he could just ignore it and go straight to Brotherhood which is way way way better.
But yeah you need to say what genre you like or it's hard to recommend.

Depends on you. What genres you like, how much crazy you're willing to tolerate in a show. How much randomness or shear overwhelming manliness you can handle.
I think Baccano! is a pretty good one to start on. It's not too far from reality, and it shows you a bit of everything that anime can offer. Lots of gore, supernatural themes, humor, a plot and good characters.
No giant robots though.

SG 22 + Show Spoiler + Indeed a very emotional episode. I am surprise they actually confessed to each other. I always though that he had a thing for Mayuri but it must be a sisterly love. Anyways, there a short scene after the ending where Suzuha called Okarin about stoping WW3 incase anyone missed it.
