similar to hotd is the manga "cage of eden" check it out if you liked hotd xD i want that animated too T_T (there is even loli AND traploli) well for me, I just wished it didn't try to make the end of the world seem so serious when it was obvious that the setting is unnecessary for all the fan service. Imo, you can't really have a serious plot when it's saturated with so much fan service. Cage of Eden on the other hand has way less fan service and way more death, which makes it a much better story. The action slowed down a lot though and is only now starting up again. The loli trap is hilarious I completely disagree. I don't see how they are related at all. Fan service alone doesn't detract from plot. However, when a show habitually dedicates entire scenes to it and adds over the top service during the action, it's hard to take any situation they are in seriously. Visuals are a key component to setting the tone of the show. When I'm presented with decapitations and blood every few minutes, I feel the serious nature of death that is being presented. When I see boobs and panties, it changes from serious to light-hearted fun. While these can exist in balance, there is a point where too much fan service makes me unable to take the entirety of the show seriously. Sure, certain scenes may be quite serious, but if I look at the plot as a whole, I will see a show dedicated to fan service, not a serious story.
Also, some guy named Tonight just destroyed me on ladder. I hate infestors.

I can agree that when you have one scene that is serious, and then all the sudden lol bath scene, then yeah, that ruins the mood and stuff. But at the same time, I think its possible to have fan service, and still have a serious plot, character development, etc etc. Just look at Godannar. Tons of tits and ass, but the character development in that show is pretty top tier imo.

Haven't seen Godannar, so I can't comment on that, but I'm saying when it goes overboard on fan service like in HotD, that's when you will no longer have a serious plot. At the very least, fan service should be excluded during the action for the most part.

I mean, honestly, fights and when people are moving around is probably the BEST time of any to throw fanservice in. Action scenes there are alot of movement and stuff, which just makes it natural for bouncing breasts and panty shots to occur. The parts where people get mad at fanservice (generally), are the slow, serious parts when the story is developing, or something. IDK, like I said, I don't really agree with the mentality that fanservice can only ruin serious parts. And also, I don't think that the fan service overall ruined the plot or anything in HotD, as I think overall it was fine, just that there were a few scenes that I thought broke the mood.

Hmm actually you're right about the action stuff. I retract my statement about that. We're going in circles at this point, so I'll just end by saying I still think there's a limit to fan service before it ruins the story. This doesn't mean I think fan service ruins it (which I think is where you are misunderstanding me the most); however, too much of it will. For me, that limit was passed in HotD.

Does anyone know if the HOTD manga is still ongoing? I've been waiting for the next chapter to come out and its been such a long time... And what happened to Eden no Ori? That hasn't updated for awhile either (at least for eng, chinese raws still come out I think)

The action slowed down a lot though and is only now starting up again. The loli trap is hilarious I completely disagree. I don't see how they are related at all. The start of HotD is completely serious, with the characters attempting to escape their school at the outset of the zombie attack. They discover various things about the zombies, and eventually succeed in obtaining a vehicle and driving away. And then they arrive at a safe house and the show/manga proceeds to hand us a particularly silly bath scene, effectively killing the serious atmosphere. Service is fine, but the way in which it's presented in HotD kinda leaves something to be desired. There comes a point when the service becomes so ridiculous that it's nearly impossible to take the show seriously anymore. The manga is marginally better at handling the service, but it has other issues. It's like the mangaka has no clue how he wants the story to progress, so the plot is advancing at a snail's pace. The manga is also basically on hiatus again, which doesn't help at all. + Show Spoiler [Manga plot gripes] +There are various hints as to where the plot will go, but the mangaka is very, very slow on acting on this. For instance, the random airport interludes have not yet been tied back to the main characters. Presumably they'll head there eventually, but god knows when that will occur.
Mr. orgy teacher is also one hell of a shitty antagonist. To date, he has done practically nothing of relevance to the plot.

Oh, thanks! I also just found out that mangareader has 2 more chapters of HOTD then mangafox.

So, this brings the question: are there any GOOD zombie killing animes? Maybe something like the Hollywood film "Zombieland?"
