You've all seen/read/played enough to instantly know what's up when they do X, Y, or Z (i.e. they throw in this or that to appeal to a certain audience, or the storyline is this type, etc.)--that is, you all have a more or less holistic view of the industry, but what would be your idea of a perfect anime/manga/VN? It's completely subjective, so the question is also up to your interpretation: whether you want something that's unlike anything you've ever experienced, or you want precisely this voice actor playing this role, this company/mangaka, etc. Just wondering ![]() Never had the chance to set aside time to answer this. First of all I'd prefer if the setting, for any reason, can suck me in. There're plenty of ways to do this, as I love the world of Toaru, just as I loved the world in Hikuushi (LN series), I loved the world/setup of Muramasa, I loved Neo Venice... etc. There's no one thing in particular. Second, I very much prefer mature characters. Shounen/adolescent(ie. middle school mental level) characters piss me the fuck off, and I can't take them. That's really the gist of what I ask. It's why you'll see me like some bizarre stuff while hating some more popular things.

It's like the definitive example of a shonen show. Anyways, Black Lagoon, Cowboy Bebop, and Baccano all have fewer anime tropes, so try those.

Anyway, Yu Yu Hakusho and Fullmetal Alchemist maybe? IDK, the fact that you don't seem to think DBZ is asian makes it incredibly hard to recommend anything to you.
