Whitebeard did jackshit because it's a rule that the older mentor type must die. It's strange though because the person he was supposed to mentor also died - Luffy had no bonds to Whitebeard. I guess Shanks needs to die in the future. Ace's fruit can probably do blue flames if he was stronger (gear second lol) and i bet we will see it if someone gets to eat it after the tournament.

age and inability to control who you knock out isnt an excuse for whitebeard to do nothing. for those who have forgotten, rayleigh still uses conquerors haki very well. he is able to pinpoint exactly who he wants to knock out and he taught it to luffy. whitebeard being the supposed "strongest man in the world" as well has having haki thats is supposed to be immensely powerful (as shown when him and shanks have their little sword fight on his ship), youd expect him to be able to control his haki easily. the only explanation i can find is oda is starting to realise how op that power is, and what it would do in a large scale fight like this. he may as well not draw any navy officers or pirate minions and just leave the main characters fight each other on a smaller scale

Wow Shinokuki sorry man!
I completly misunderstood your post!
oh and btw Death Note really is a great manga and it's anime is also good, way better then naturo/bleach and ToG in my opinion. Great story line.

Whitebeard nearly destroyed marineford single-handedly lol how can you say that he did nothing there. He was ill (for a long time) and get backstabbed and still managed to show how powerful he was. Granted I feel like he is more about the crazy AoE attacks (that literally can cause mass destruction on earth ie the strongest man on earth) but the point was that he was that great leader and father, his wills will be passed down to the new generation after his death.

Second, if he did use conqueror's haki, we would also knock out his own troops and quite frankly, they already didn't have the number of the marines. It wasn't an equal match from a numbers point of view, nor was it even a match in terms of good DF/haki users I feel when it came to rank
Lastly, I think he held back so that should the worst case scenario happen, he could intervene to hold back the enemy force to give his troops time to fall back. He may or may not die when he intervened. Remember we had 3 admirals, Sengoku and Garp all in one place. And I think only whitebeard could have fought them or held them back.
From a strategy point of view, his limited action was proper for what was happening in the story.
If he did go all out from the get go, he would have tired out from fodder and maybe the shibukai battles (Eventually) and he wouldn't even be able to keep up with the 3 admirals. What then?
My two cents. its all strategy the marines could have made a trap that was guranteed chance to kill whitebeard if he had run ahead the most important part in any strategy is never play your ace first, start with the low fry and have progressively stronger troops join the battle
also Whitebeard was the Strategist so he stayed back to where he could actually SEE the battle he was strategizing

lol whitebeard didnt strategise shit. he just watched and said a bunch of things that were hardly relevant to fighting strategies. and the fact that he still could have used his conquerors haki but didnt is unexplainable

How's Whitebeard a strategist? Wasn't he precisely known for his physical strength? His gigantic stature and fruit's ability all point towards that.
It's been confirmed that Whitebeard has conqueror's haki? It's kind of lame to be honest - It's supposed to be only on pirates at Gol D. Roger's level, something truly special, and now everyone and their mom's girlfriend has it.

Roger's level, something truly special, and now everyone and their mom's girlfriend has it. So far its confirmed for Shanks, Whitebeard, Rayleigh, Luffy and Doflamingo? I dont think weve seen anyone else have it yet and id say they all are on Rogers level, especially if you consider all the hints that luffy is rogers reincarnation. Doflamingo is still kind of a wildcard, we really dont know anything about him yet.

I'll just say this about the knock up stream. It didn't just happen under Jaya one time. It happened at least twice within the flashback. And we don't know how many other times it might of happend too. The earthquake that traps Norland was an atempt for the KUS to send Jaya to the sky but it wasn't able to it only cracked the island. http://www.mangapanda.com/103-2395-18/one-piece/chapter-288.html
My theory is the KUS only happnens within the Jaya climate zone which is why it doesn't happen elsewhere and even within that climate it only happens within certain areas and is still random within that area. + Show Spoiler +

confirmed: Whitebeard, Rayleigh, Luffy, Shanks, Ace, Roger, Don Chinjao, DoFlamingo.
pretty sure: Garp, Dragon, the other 2 younkou.
don't know what's so lame about it, it's a "leader's thing" and considering we're only meeting big shots from now on it's not too farfetched to have a few of them. One in a million doesn't mean much if you only meet the strongest characters

People are thinking way too much.

Hancock also has been stated to have Conquerors Haki. Oh and Ace.
|
why only pirates though? something i've noticed is that dudes in navy were never shown to have it.

While they havent been shown to have it, we don't know if Garp or Sengoku have it, or any of the other admirals. I mean they only fight top pirates so why would they use it on any of the low levels that they have been seen fighting.
Also in the MarineFord arc the three admirals were shown protecting marine ford with their haki although it wasn't state what kind of haki, and we dont really know in what way the conquerors haki is used in a battle.

TBH if it can only "faint" some small fries it's a pretty lackluster ability for being so hyped, Luffy could 1v10000 pretty easily back in Enies Lobby anyway

shanks vs whitebeard and luffy vs chinjao show that it's something more than just that

From what I have understood you can't target people with conqueror haki. It's more like a shockwave knocking everyone in its path. If WB had used his, he would have taken out most of his own allies. From what we know, Whitebeard wouldn't even think about using a weapon that could hurt the people he considers as his children. Not to mention that it would be useless against foes that matter like the admirals and the shichibukai.
Actually him using conqueror's haki would have been the plot hole... It's inconsistent with the character.

i think it's more that it wouldn't have worked vs admirals/shichibukai since he didn't need to use it to take out small fry.
conqueror's haki can be targeted, see what rayleigh did when he first met luffy and also see luffy vs fake luffy and rayleigh also telling luffy not to use it until he's learned how to master it or else he'll use it on allies or something

I remember that when Rayleigh used it in the auction house some crewmen of Law were dizzy. If Rayleigh could choose the targets, those people would have either fainted or felt nothing.
In all the examples you mention, only small fries were affected
