I love how everything just sparkles regardless of occasion hahaha And it would suck if someone wielding one of the greatest swords just fell in this arc... it would be great if Cavendish forever is trying to hunt Luffy and then fails and sparkles every time | ||

Although Lucy is the name of the main useless protagonist in Fairy Tail, the reason Lucy was chosen was because it is similar to Luffy. When he was signing up he started saying his name and then changed it because he promised to be in disguise. He keeps repeating his name because he believes it will make him less likely to have his true identity revealed. Luffy doesn't really want to fight anyone seriously right now because they haven't done anything to piss him off yet. Also there is nothing else to suggest any connection to Fairy Tail. | ||

There are probably about 50 different manga series running a tournament arc at this very moment. It's basically a shonen trope. That said: it could be, but unless there's something more obvious or Oda says something it's just a clutch-at-straws thing. FT doesn't have the monopoly on Lucys and fairies.
