Well no need to explain what happened with akainu vs wb Sengoku tend to hype up wb crew but really none of the top tiers except akainu seemed to really try. Had Garp, Sengoku, 3 admirals, Mihawk actually did that is too one sided. They were just chilling literally. Wb also has 3 shichibukai work for them and wb crew still got recked. Sengoku said wb is strongest man but that seemed pretty contradictory when wb said he was no longer the same man as before and Marco pointed out wb’s coo was pretty weak and etc. Like I said marine ford was full of too many plot holes. There were just too many top tiers on one side for oda to really deal with. He had to resort to cut scenes where each top tier shows his power for a lil bit and takes a backseat. This was also when power scaling was low. I mean akainu probably would’ve turned entire battlefield into magma only on wb side just to obliterate them. But the concept of df awakening was not fully fleshed at the time. | ||

In universe power is defined not only by strength, but political power, territory or military might; they're called the three great powers, not the "these are, in order, who's stronger or just as strong, in these three categories". Even though the Marines "won" Marineford, not one character directly defeated another aside from Ace and Akainu; Whitebeard was taken by attrition and Blackbeard's dirty tactics, and Jozu/Marco were taken offguard, but they survived anyways. Garp and Sengoku lamented many times before and during the battle that either side could prevail. Arguing about who's stronger in OP is a futile exercise because Oda ultimately decides who the narrative should smile favorably upon. Luffy vs Katakuri is perhaps the best example of why strength is almost meaningless for fans predicting/determining who wins vs another. Also Devil Fruit interactions can make a lot of fights ambiguous or superfluous when there's a hierarchy of superiority; e.g. Akainu vs Ace, Aokiji vs Monet, Blackbeard vs Fujitora. "Devil Fruit users don't grow stronger, they just grow more creative... You never know how two abilities will match up and interact vs each other." | ||
