Ok I didn't catch that his foot was pierced at all. Thanks for the explanation.

I don't think it can be considered an "asspull" when there's been a whole lead up towards improving an aspect of his powers and he's been getting destroyed while attempting to do it.

The problem is that even improving his powers to the level of Katakuri wouldn't win him the fight in his condition. And then there's Flampe, Oven and his guys and a bunch of other stuff directly in Luffy's way.
Luffy's reached the state where he probably wouldn't win against all the ppl between him and his crew even if they prove to be fairly weak and he hasn't won against Katakuri yet.
His crew isn't exactly in fighting shape either. So they've kinda reached the point where they are going to need outside help.

Would you guys be satisfied if Luffy was able to knock down Katakuri one time and then Katakuri gives up or goes nuts because he’s never been knocked down before?
Katakuri has his stoic persona, but we’ve seen that it is an act when he ate his doughnuts privately. We also know how much pride he has about never being knocked down. The foreshadowing is there for a reason. I think Luffy can get him one time and that may end the match with a brutally beaten, but victorious Luffy and a barely hurt Katakuri who gives up because he has lost his pride.

The problem I have with that is that Katakuri seems like the cold guy who pretends to be noble. He explicitly doesn't toy with Luffy because he fears his potential, so I have a hard time seeing Katakuri giving up because of his pride.
I wouldn't mind Katakuri loosing to Luffy tbh, if Luffy gets a hit off and Katakuri enters rage/fail mode again I could imagine that Gear4 Luffy can finish him off. Depending on whether this chap is or isn't future sight that is a fairly realistic option for me.
But even then Luffy isn't really in a condition to fight anymore. The problem is that he'd have to fight through half of BM's family to reach his crew, so those guys would have to give up on sight after seeing Katakuri beaten or sth like that. And if Flampe continues to actively help Katakuri, Luffy's chances are getting very low.

If Luffy gets up to Katakuri's level, it becomes a question of which has the better endurance, and when is more tenatious. Luffy obviously has taken a beating thus far, but Katakuri is a character who has lived his life without getting knocked over and uses Observation Haki to dodge most everything that comes his way. He could very well have a "glass jaw" and go down to Luffy's strongest attack at the end. The fight could very well go something like: Luffy finally gets Observation Haki necessisary to hit Katakuri->King Kong Gun (same hit that punched straight through all of Doflamingo's best shit)->Katakuri KO'd
As far as Big Mom's crew goes, Smoothie and co can be out-ran, and Sanji is fresh and Jinbe is still plenty operational. Memes aside, Sanji would stomp Oven, and Luffy's Conqueror's Haki could take care of the mooks.

I'm mostly surprised Pudding didn't get visibly jealous when Sanji went all loveydovey and "I love you" over Nami.

Holy shit. Katakuri's immense pride in himself as a perfectionist is wholly warranted. He's a true man, willing to expose his own weaknesses and the parts of himself which he hates for the sake of fairness.

Looks like the fans are finally getting that Lucci fight that they wanted.
Admittedly, the setup was weaker this time around but the actual fight is shaping up to be pretty sick.

Man Katakuri is one of the coolest Villians in One Piece by far. He's the kind of character that I hope remains a prominent member in the story even after this arc is done.

I kind of don't get the sister. Does she think he will seriously lose face? He is like Big Mom's goto guy lol. I also don't get why those dudes snapping photos of him aren't terrified of him casually killing them.
