I'd say this is more like Luffy vs. Lucci - at least that's what I'm hoping this turns out to be. This chapter is much better than the last one and put the series back on track IMO. The art looks a lot better too.
I also like how someone finally acknowledged how much damage the Straw Hats and Firetanks have done to Big Mom's crew: Cracker got defeated, Bobbin was seemingly killed, Opera got soul sucked, Perospero was maimed, the chateau was blown up, the Sun pirates and Firetank pirates defected and so did Chiffon. Hopefully, this news will get out how the Big Mom pirates were weakened and it could lead to Kaido sensing weakness and starting a war.

If Katakuri has the advantage in speed, strength, Devil Fruits, and perception haki, it makes me hope that maybe this fight could somehow come down to the area where Luffy excels, Conqueror's Haki. Thus far it has hardly been relevant in big fights, so this would be a chance for Oda to show off what Conqueror's Haki can do

Could be - though I don't really know how you could expand further on it. I always thought of conqueror's haki as domination/mind control haki - so not sure how he could use that on Katakuri beyond controlling his allies.
I'm leaning more towards Luffy either developing a new technique or finally mastering his rubber ball form. I highly doubt that Katakuri can become a rubber ball via the mochi fruit. Oda has made it a point to highlight how much stamina gear 4 uses and how Luffy can't keep it up for long - maybe this is the fight in which he surpasses that limit?

I'm just thinking that Conqueror's Haki just doesn't live up to its hype right now. And this could be a great opportunity to show us its value when things actually matter, and show it capable of doing things we haven't seen yet. Its just hard for me to accept that Conqueror's Haki is some great, amazing, fearsome thing, when thus far its only been useful against irrelevant fodder.

sadly i think conquerors haki has been given to so many characters that are god tier i wouldnt be surprised if oda gave it to katakuri too.
its supposed to be 1/1000000 but honestly, katakuri probably fits in that class anyway.

While true, it could also be in the one area where Luffy exceeds Katakuri. We know Luffy has Observation Haki, but its already been shown to be weaker than Katakuri's, so it could be reverse for Conquerors.
Honestly I'd be kinda disappointed if Luffy came out with a new technique for it. Although it wouldn't be too bad to show off more of what Gear 4th is able to do as well.

Conqueror Haki isn't just some one trick where you knock people out - that is just one function. The major function of it is being able to dominate others and form kingdoms. Hence the comment from Don Chinjao during his fight with Luffy - "what kind of king do you want to be?" The reason that the marines fear pirates with conqueror Haki is because they can form large crews and alliances that become a major problem to deal with. Just think about the people who we've seen use it: Doflamingo, Whitebeard, Shanks, Big Mom...

If thats all it is, its like the single least exciting special power I've ever seen in a shounen manga. Thats the sort of ability shounen MCs come equipped by default, so if it can't do anything more than that, Oda's dropped the ball

Well can't you use it to give extra zing to your aatacks. Atleast in scenes like where Luffy fought Don Chinjao and their Conqueror Haki were clashing.

Actually it gets "explained" even earlier, by mihawk and ivankov during the war. Luffy attracts people and makes them his ally due to conquerors haki. But i also think Oda is wrong here. Meme aside, way too many people have it. It was supposed to be something special, of course everyone in the new world is hella strong but conquerors haki was not linked to strength necessarily. I dont like that Chinjao had it. Hell even Doflamingo shouldnt have had it. He was just a random noble that stumbled upon a strong fruit and awakened it, i dont think conquerors haki is a requirement for that.

I'm not actually 100% sure that Luffy's magnetism is because of his Conqueror Haki. While it does seem to help him a lot, I doubt that it's just because he has it that everyone just wants to see him succeed. It has more to do with him magnetic personality, IMO. My reasoning for this is because the shit he pulled in Marineford was miles above what any other "Conqueror" did: he started off the fight with no allies (back in Impel Down) and managed to convince the Newkama, Crocodile, Jimbe, Buggy and the prisoners, then later Whitebeard and his crew to help him. I doubt that someone like Doflamingo or Boa Hancock could pull that shit off. Also, Luffy stated himself that he does not want to conquer anything and just wants to be free.
This is what I think the major distinction is: Conqueror Haki enables you to force your will upon others while Luffy's natural magnetism makes everyone want to help him. I'm sure Luffy could use a combination of his strength and Haki to build a gigantic crew if he wanted to, but he doesn't. Instead his "fleet" of allies is built around him without his consent.

I don't think it's a case of "It's supposed to be special and everyone seems to have it" for Conq Haki. It's just that we're in an area of such high level that all the people that don't have it have been weeded out, so it just seems oversaturated.
I'm kinda wondering about "Awakening" fruits and whether that'll come into play for Luffy after Doflamingo set it up in their fight as a higher level.

And as far as Shichibukai level goes.. there is such a variance in how strong Shichibukai are that there's no way to call someone "As strong as the Shichibukai."

I am not even sure luffy is going to defeat mochi guy. This totally looks like him vs admirals fight. But he will surely learn something from this fight to be able to use it in wano kingdom and kaido

I think it's the potential of it that's terrifying people. Most just won't have a strong enough Conq Haki to actually have it apply to others that are on about the same level. But those weaker can be affected.
The thing is, with strong enough Conq Haki a 1 v 100001 fight where there's only one strong enough person to resist the Haki turns into a 1v1. That's where the strength of the ability in combat lays. To deal with numbers.
