I was thinking that too after my initial thought of one of the samurai being a potential crew mate fell through. I think Carrot is more likely because there was a scene where that Dog chick was looking for Carrot and she said, "If Carrot is with the strawhat, then I am sure she will be fine." To me, this felt like the minks gave their blessing to allow Carrot to travel with strawhat crew and that she was is probably going to have a big role to play. Combine this with her high curiosity of wanting to travel makes me feel like the author is pushing her to be part of the crew. Which I think will probably get explored as they go to find sanji on her purpose.
I had forgotten that a key feature of each strawhat pirates is that each one of them have a purpose on the journey. Luffy = pirate king Zoro = best swordsman Sanji = finding all blue etc etc etc

There's also that one picture where carrot is portrayed in snow with the rest of the rescue team.
Devil Fruits come out into the closest fruits when someone dies? And why would it wait so long to come out now, instead of back when Monet actually died?

It did transfer when she died. Just no one is allowed to eat Nami's tangerines so no one has noticed it yet is all. Or thats how the theory goes.
Not sure I believe it, but it does make enough sense to be at least plausible.

There's nothing to say that they transfer to the closest fruit. They're reborn into another fruit of the same type, but there's no evidence that proximity has anything to do with it.
Just a lot of theories and speculation. Potentially valid speculation, but nothing actually verified by information in the manga.

Yeah this kind of articulates why I never warmed up to the idea of a logia straw hat. Logias are cool to see and fight against as a non-logia user but when you put a logia character into a spotlight things become boring pretty fast.
The main reason that that particular fight was "boring as hell", is because that fight never actually happened in the first place. The whole fight in the anime was a filler (aswell as the whole part where Ace travels with the Strawhats on land in the anime). They are starving. big mum challanges luffy (or the other way around) to an eating contest, winner gets sanji. luffy wins cuz he was starving like crazy.
Also, Revolutionary Mainbase destroyed by BB, but probably no revolationaries harmed. --> Aokiji is a double agent for both and warned the revolutionaries.
those would be my theories.
I wonder what happened to apoo and hawkins, as we've only seen kidd being defeated. Maybe they did flee when they were given the opportunity, leaving kidd behind? maybe they agreed to serve for kaido? or we've just not seen them being beaten down as well.

There's no evidence that it is reborn in another fruit of the same type. We never saw Ace's fire fruit or the Axolotl fruit before they were reborn
If anything there's more evidence that proximity matters considering the Axolotl fruit appeared in the apples in the cart (and that Caesar saw fit to bring apples near Smiley before it died).

the apples are probably coincidence, if it was just nearest fruit hed make sure he had the only fruit on the island in a safe spot so the fruit would be secure instead of in the middle of god knows where surrounded by poison
if fruits were so predictable then theyd be executing fruit users more regularily instead of keeping them locked up

at the end of 821 there was a den den mushi that looked just like apoo telling Kaidou about losing communications with Jack so it seems like Apoo has joined up with Kaidou

Also, Monets fruit, the yuki yuki no mi (snow fruit). She lost it when she died at Punk Hazard, and as the theory goes, the fruit is reborn at the closest fruit from where the user died, in Monets case that would be the tangerine tree inside the sunny.

Don't you remember that time Kaidou tried to commit suicide by jumping from a sky island and landed right on the island the Kidd alliance's base was on? Kidd was dumb enough to pick a fight.
