He ran away and got on a ship, even if they found out which ship he got onto, that ship was attacked by Zeff and multiple people saw him go overboard. No reason to really believe he was alive after that. Zeff and him both then led relatively quiet lives as cooks in East Blue, so no news of an old one legged chef and a boy in east blue would really reach the new world. B) They had no use for him until now. Why waste the resources of tracking him down when he doesn't want to be apart of the family. Having to jump the redline and deal with the long travel just to get a bratty kid back doesn't sound like something a family of assassins would care about. Especially with 2 older sons already. Now that they are in talks with big mom about an arranged marriage suddenly finding him becomes a bit more important again, not to mention him being in the new world makes it easier for them to get at him. To me I can find ways that make sense, but I'm biased to the other side, I quite like the family of assassins twist. The moment they put up 'Alive Only' means the Vinsmokes can't capture Sanji themselves. That's what I mean. Which is why I am disappointed in the first place. Nothing to do with him being alive at Zeff or not, but now that you bought up 'usage'. Could be that both brothers are dead and they need him to succeed the family business. Also, talking about the whole Zeff story line etc. Sanji could be trained to be a chef because he was training how to use knives. And him claiming not to use his hands is because he doesn't want to taint his hands could be a lie. He could be hiding his ability in using knives to kill. There are a lot of ways you can intepret this information but I have one more thing for you to think about now. Sanji new powerup will have something to do with midrange knife throwing ![]()

Now that they know he's alive, they're using his marriage to Big Mom's family to secure a very powerful ally. Since he is officially just some pirate, the Vinsmoke family can secure that alliance without tarnishing their own name publicly. They're making another shady deal through the underworld to raise their power in the legitimate world similar to assassinating political enemies.

It's just a general notice to any people who Sanji may come across.

Oh, he was part of CP0? I must have forgotten that part. I still feel like with so many assassins being relevant right now, they'll have a big part to play with this coming arc.

That would be lame. It would be like if crocodile or buggy came back for a rematch as opposed to an alliance.

They could still be a royal family of sorts, but with strong connections to the underworld where they hire assassins and have thus become infamous there. Sanji may have left them because he heard his father plotting an assassination and decided it wasn't honorable. So he snuck upon a luxury ship and then met Zeff. The family probably assumed he died when the ship went down. Now that they know he's alive, they're using his marriage to Big Mom's family to secure a very powerful ally. I doubt it's hyperbole, but I saw someone mention that in Japanese the words that Pekoms uses are "人殺し" which means "killer" and Oda has previously used 殺し屋 to refer to assassins (like the Funk brothers). So they aren't necessarily assassins.

They have an additional son to marry off to create a powerful connection to, so they did it. As for assassins.... who the hell isnt killing other people to move up in this world? Seem common place.

I expected Zoro to talk some sense into Luffy, but that didn't happen at all. Maybe Zoro is worried about Sanji or he's gonna talk about it later.
