Now replace the attack with a bullet, and blocking arms with a bullet proof vest, can you now say someone block the bullet which hit the body with a vest?
Nope, you can't say "you blocked a bullet with a vest". You can say the vest blocked the bullet from killing you, but you can't say you blocked the bullet from hitting you since if you were shot with a bullet wearing a vest, the bullet still hit you, it just didn't kill you. If the bullet didn't hit you, you either dodged it or it missed you. For you to block the bullet, it must not have HIT you at all, through maybe a combat shield.
Likewise, you can say that Doffy's haki prevented Luffy from killing Doffy, but you can't say Doffy's haki blocked Luffy from hitting Doffy's face, because his attack still hit Doffy's face straight on.

i think Zoro could 1-shot doffy, pity he had to fight low-level minions instead.

Mingo's haki is like a bullet proof vest that blocked luffy from killing him with gear4 haki imbued drop kick to the face that intended to kill mingo.

If you take an attack and damage, you are hit by the attack. Blocking is when you take and deflect the attack, so you are not hit and damaged. Dodging is when you cause the attack to miss you.

nope, you are wrong, you can have defensive wounds from blocking a knife intend to kill you with your arm. That's an example where you took damage but still block the knife. Ace block an attack from Akainu and died from it, but we still consider it a block because the intended target luffy was unharmed from that attack. The intended target in our argument is Mingo's face, and after the attack Mingo's face is unharmed his sunglasses undamaged serves as my evidence to back up my claim.

this thread has a strange ability to cause people to argue over semantics

Ace didn't block Akainu's punch and died from it... Ace saved Luffy from dying by sacrificing himself!
Anyway DD is being owned(since he is taking damage and not giving anything back) but lets see if he has another trick up his sleeve, i bet Law will give him the finishing move or maybe help Luffy give the finishing move

Really liked the concept behind Gear4 and the attacks seem to be pretty strong. Too bad the design kinda suck and it doesn't have that "Holy shit, so fuckin' badass" feel of Gear2.
|
Hahaha Gear Fourth look soooooo weird but it's power is crazy o.o Doflamingo seems to have A LOT of questions :D
I guess that's it, I doubt DF will come back from this. Exciting arc and especially liked the small talk of Law and Cavendish. This certainly had a lot of cool WTF moments. Sabo (where the f is he now...), Gear Fourth, crazy DF backstory and Law with a D, Laws sacrificial ability, dwarves and Usopp the GOD.
Now what though... Kaido or Big Mom?

rei doing his best Forikorder impression l o l.

Too bad the design kinda suck and it doesn't have that "Holy shit, so fuckin' badass" feel of Gear2. Gear 2 was the Super Saiyan moment that we'll never get again. With Gear 2, for the first time, Luffy jumped in power. After that first time, any power jumps are no longer unique. SSJ2 or SSJ3 were nowhere near as cool as the original either.
As for what will happen next, Doflamingo has barely even tried to use his strings in this fight. I think he arrogantly wanted to match Luffy in raw power and shut him down without more tricks. Now that Luffy has shown superiority in physical combat, Doflamingo will do what he does best. This is the guy that cut off Oars Jr's leg like it was childs play, controlled high ranking marines and Atmos (Whitebeard commander), held Diamond Jozu in place, and trolled Crocodile pretty easily. None of that was with brute strength.
I think Luffy is going to need more than the basic powerup from gear 4 to defeat Doflamingo. Doflamingo isn't a powerful but dumb beast like what Luffy learned gear 4 to defeat. Doflamingo is extremely clever and at a minimum, Luffy is going to have to show off a huge range of abilities that he can use from within Gear 4. He may even need to pull out something else.

I really hope Kaido shows up after the fight, would love to see some badassness :3

Man, rei you are so wrong.
Also you need a dictionary.

Well, maybe the reason we aren't seeing Doffy use strings to counter Gear 4 is that most of his ability to utilize strings to battle is either concentrated on the Bird Cage technique and/or holding his organs together to prevent him from dying after Law's attack.
Maybe the fight will unravel where Doffy is not yet defeated but cancels BirdCage to fight back Luffy Gear 4. That's a maybe which I think is at least possible given that it would be sad if Luffy just roflstomps him now just after going Gear 4.

Hehe! Yeah, was actually wondering that as well as Zoro was shown to be planning to act vs the birdcage to try and save the civilians so tha tmost likely involves cutting through the birdcage. Who knows right now, but it would be a nice reaction to his action. hehe!

What are Doffy's strings made out of that they're so tough? Some kind of carbon nanotube material?

Feels like half of Luffy's crew barely ever showed up and did just about nothing during this arc.

Still would have expected them to have something more going on there.
Almost like there's too many characters now and he can't give them all a solid purpose in a arc. Although I guess there was all those arena fighters filling in for them.
