+ Show Spoiler + so hitsugaya now looks kinda like grimmjow albeit seemingly more mature etc and we get a bunch of new "skills" from both him and byakuya *sigh* kubo, always new "skills" and stuff in the face of some strong opponent, but at least it's something good in exchange for all the crap we've been getting the past idk how many chapters.

It also looks like kenpachi bankai got canceled? He looks sort of normal again.

He didn't use to be able to make the infinite swords summoned by his bankai attack, he had to take them individually and fight using them. On the last page he just launches all of them. That's the result of his training with the Royal Guard, I guess. Not impressed. The sword thing... yeah that's just Kubo not giving a shit. "This explanation worked against the Fear dude, surely it will work against a sword!" I think Yachiru turned his bankai off last chapter because Kenpachi used too much power at once.

Pretty sure he could always do the infinite swords, he just said he didn't because of honour and things. Kubo's pretty much gone back and reread all his work (LOL, I pity him for it) and made notes of all the things he foreshadowed and dropped like a rock. And now he's trying to cram them all in at once.

I'm assuming, in a nutshell, this new transformation gives hitsugaya the ability to freeze things to "absolute zero" (if not near absolute zero) at which point atoms stop moving (i.e. the sword can't regenerate)... this is why it's so shocking when giant viking man busts out.... So, the plan is, they freeze him and then slice him into so many individual pieces the pieces on their own don't have the power to re-generate? I thought it would be something like this....

Ripping off something he already did this arc. Sure but they've had the same power from day 1, to control ice. There's only so many ways it can go from there. I guess they didn't both have to turn into a aoe cold front, but still.
