At least for me, that was the problem. I'm guessing they tried to stuff too much into it. It felt like not enough time was devoted to the different parts. Needed more world building if you ask me.

the part with the Princesses was pretty hilarious

I saw it yesterday with my wife. As someone who loves Disney movies, I'm super pleased with having just watched the movie that has more Disney references (and an impressive amount of self-deprecating humor) than any other movie. Wreck-It Ralph 2: Ralph Breaks The Internet is not only an amazing sequel with tons of nostalgic video game references and characters, but also has a ton of amazing Disney tropes and *perfectly* satirizes literally everything about the internet, social media, and digital obsessions. It was surprisingly deep. Highly, highly recommend both Ralph 1 and 2.

I thought it was fun as a popcorn flick, and a current "right here in 2018" internet satire.

But it's going to be the worst aging moving imaginable.
Average means I'm better than half of you.

Rear Window

After watching my first hitchcock with Vertigo a month or so ago, i decided to watch the next classic: Rear Window.
Our main character jeff who has to stay at home due to a broken leg has nothing better to do than observing his neighbours through his rear window, one day he notices something weird happening in one of the apartments and from there on suspects that a man across the yard murdered his wife.
What i like about this movie is the way it's told, we are literally only observing all the action through the pov of jeff which means we stay in his room and only see what he can see through his window. Obviously he has a rather good view on things, in each of the apartments there is a small narrative going on (we see a ballerina practicing, a new married couple being being happy, some very lonely woman trying to make the best of it, etc)
This voyeurism can be seen as a metaphor to cinema itself, but even without this extra layer it's a neat idea to present a story. I again have small problems with the outdated acting and the ending sequence (though the last scene itself is way better than in vertigo). Hitchcock is obviously a master of creatign suspense and tension, there the limited action radius of our main character in addition to the pov we have really makes sense and shows its strengths.
Should definitely check this out if you haven't already, i really liked it but didn't absolutely love it due to it being imo dated here and there.

Carnage

After two boys got into a fight where one of them gets hit in the face with a stick, both their parents meet to discuss the incident. That's really all there is to this movie plot wise, we follow this conversation which starts well mannered but ultimately spirals out of control and ends in everyone showing their true face. There is nothing noteworthy about the technical aspects of filmmaking here, what this movie excells at is the acting of our 4 protagonists (kate winslet, jodie foster, john c reily and christoph waltz) and the dialogue. It will make you somewhat uncomfortable in one scene but make you laugh at the absurdity of adults behaving like this in the other. Very good movie!

Under the skin

We follow Scarlett Johansson's character who seduces men to ultimately kill them. Don't wanna say more about the plot, it's very mysterious and good at creating a disturbing atmosphere. The story plays in glasgow and you can tell that they mainly casted people around that area for the side roles, very hard to understand what people are saying
The cinematography is beautiful, the pacing is a tad bit too slow for my liking though. What this film tries to achieve is showcasing what humans really are, what they need, what they feel. It accomplishes this in some of its scenes very beautifully, in others it misses the mark. Overall it's still worth a look, definitely something prone to interpretation but also might bore the shit out of you at places (not something you have seen before though)

Taxi Driver

Travis Bickle, a depressed ex marine takes a job as a taxi driver to at least make some money dealing with his chronic insomnia. He grows more and more pessimistic though, coping with a failed romance, losing hope in humanity as a whole when seeing political corruption and the "scum on the streets". He decides to release all this anger in a voilent act.
In essence this is a character study but also showcasing society's role in building these hopeless citizens, it's a fairly slow paced film with some beautiful night shots of new york city. Clever dialogue and a thematic rich premise make this to movie definitely worth your time even when it runs maybe a tad bit too long.
Scoresese showing what he is capable of, with a fantastic performance by de niro, what more do you want?

Die Hard

Here our protagonist and NYPD detective John McClane goes to a christmas party at the workplace of his wife. They aren't particularly close anymore, living in different cities so he tries to use this event to reconcile with her. During the party german terrorists enter the corporation tower and from here on out John tries his best to stop them and save his wife.
What makes this more than a dumb action movie is the writing. The characters are likeable, there are consequences to flawed decisions (our main character isn't just completely invincible!), there is some commentary on police work and mediaplay, the dialogue is fun. Nothing is absolute masterclass, but it all works perfectly together to make a very good action flick.

Castaway on the Moon

This is the story of Kim Seong-geun and Kim Jung-yeon, one a man deep in debt who decides to suicide by jumping into the han river in seoul, but washing up on an island in it, the other a young woman with extreme social anxiety, basically never leaving her room. After the failed suicide attempt seong-geun tries to live on this island, he cannot swim and it's far enough away from the main land that noone can hear or see him there either, well except for jung-yeon who loves to look at the moon with her camera.
A story with a very special take on the romcom genre, commentating on the hardship of this success orientated society and what it does to the mental state of people, while also adding a lot of fun and quirky moments due to the weird idea it chose to portay. Even if you don't like romcoms usually, this is so unique and refreshing that you should give it a try, especially because the romance part is somewhat in the background anyway.

8-8.5/10

My Sassy Girl

Another romcom, way more straight forward than "castaway on the moon". Boy saves drunk girl who almost falls on the subway trails, they start to date. The "twist" is that the usual gender roles aren't completely at play here, the girl is "sassy" and very demanding, almost abusive at times. There is more to her behavior than one would first assume though.
At the start this is very heavy on the comedy part (great physical comedy!) and moves more and more into the romance + drama section, what i really loved about it is the chemistry between our leads, their growing relationship is very well portrayed, you actually believe that they fall for each other because the movie really spends a lot of time to develop it. There are some unique ideas in the narrative which make it extra fun and probably add rewatchability. It can get somewhat melodramatic, usually i am not the biggest fan but the movie just makes it work wonderfully and gives you the full spectrum of emotions. I can not fully explain why i liked this as much as i did, but i kinda loved it.

Oasis

Hong Jong-du a mildly mentally disabled man is released from prison after servign his sentence for a hit and run accident. The first thing he has to deal with is his family not really welcoming him back with open arms, they "were more happy without him being in the way". He still lives with them, gets a job as a delivery boy and just tries his best. He feels remorse and visitis the family of the man he killed. There he finds them moving out with one exception: Gong-ju a woman with cerebral palsy is left behind. From there on out a special romance develops.
This movie will make you really uncomfortable, our two protagonists are social outcasts due to their disablities and their flawed characters, not only once will you introspect and think "what would i do in this situation, how would i judge them?"
And even though they both have to deal with social prejudices and family conflicts, they accept each other and just try to do their best as a couple.
The acting is phenomenal, especially the female lead (Moon So-ri) is fantastic, very nuanced portrayal of this handicap.
A very brave film, deciding to pick a difficult topic and developing it thoroughly, thought provoking, emotionally rich (you will never see a more romantic, touching act than cutting down a tree), simply brilliant.

Whiplash

Andrew Neiman, a first year jazz student gets invited into the studio band of conductor Terence Fletcher. Fetcher is an incredibly strict and abusive teacher, openly mocking his students for tiny mistakes and even physically tormenting them.
Nonetheless Andrew wants to be the next big musician in jazz so he does everything he can to fulfill his dream of becoming a drumming legend even if that means losing everything else in the process.
This movie is about authority and power structures, what it takes to become regarded as world elite in your field, but also the thin line between passion and obsession.
J. K. Simmons as fletcher is incredible, every scene he is in is pure tension and extremely captivating to watch. The music is great, the cinematography is awesome, the movie doesn't waste any time on unimportant fluff, the pacing is perfect. What makes this just miss the masterpiece level are some small but imo really noticeable flaws in the writing during a crucial moment. Still, this movie is absolutely great and everyone should see it.

Frozen

This is the story of elsa and anna, a princess sister pair living in the kingdom of arendelle. Elsa has magical ice powers and one day during playtime she accidentally injures anna which results ultimately in her forgetting about elsa's magical abilities and elsa living in fear and self doubt, trying to supress her powers as best as she can. Obviously one day she cannot hide it anymore and has to go into exile because people aren't happy about "witchcraft".
First things first, there are some good musical scenes in this one, funnily enough "let it go", the song everyone knows is one of the weaker songs. There are hints of thematic dept when it comes to social anxiety and depression, but it's incredibly surface level even for a film for children. The characters are all rather underdeveloped, the story is extremely unsurprising and while the animation is fairly good, there is hardly any unique or interesting elements portrayed which is disappointing considering this is a fantasy film.
It's not terrible, but from now on when i think about the golden standard of mediocrity i think of frozen.

Maybe action movies can only get up to an 8 because of their limited scope?
But Shooter (2007) was an action movie that blew me away. I'll have to rewatch both Die Hard & Shooter to see which one I find better though.

Well i am no real action movie fan in general, not sure which one i would rate higher tbh, i guess kill bill if that counts :D
For Die Hard i liked pretty much everything except for the rather cheesy german terrorists, doesn't help that i can understand what they were saying either. But 8/10 is "very good" in my book, so there is that.
The movie simply didn't outright flash me or anything, so there was basically no part which i thought to be exceptional which makes it hard to justify to rate it higher if that makes sense.

You should look up the production of Die Hard and how Alan Rickman changed Hanz Gruber from some generic terrorist to a hyper educated, well dress thief. Die Hard is sort of the first of its kind in a lot of ways and really shook up how action movies were made. And the production of the movie is kinda crazy. They changed the plot and focus based on the actors performances part way through production. But movies were weird in the 1980s and 1970s.

It is a neat film because it is a heist movie inside of an action movie. They fill out the ranks of the “terrorist” with some fun characters, have them steal from a staggering rich company and make all the cops but two assholes. In any other movie you would be cheering for Hanz Gruber’s team, but they take hostages and kill people. And the movie is smart enough to let Hanz Gruber succeed in breaking into the super safe and get the money, only to be thwarted the hero.

Well alan rickman was great i agree with that, but the rest of the terrorists were a little goofy here and there which is more noticeable if you are able to speak german i guess. I will check it out though, definitely a very good and enjoyable movie which i will probably rewatch.

I bet the fake German is beyond terrible. This was in an era of movie making when there was no concept of an international block buster, so it only needed to convince Americans. Which boiled down to “sounds vaguely like German”.

We watch Die Hard every Christmas in the P6 house hold because it is so damn good.

My first Die Hard was 3, saw it as a kid and it was a blast, I'd give it a 10. It was before they used cgi for everything and had to really blow shit up, I miss those days.

I thought the traditional Die Hard movie to watch for Christmas was the second one lol. It is always on the TV in December, maybe because the movie is set on christmas time, the airport is full because of it and it snows hard.

Die Hard 3 was also was one of my favs as a kid. The duo is just killer.

Die Hard 1 is the perennial xmas movie. Die Hard 2 is okay but not as good as 1 & 3. DH1 is like watching The Notebook every Valentine's Day. You just have to. (I've never seen the Notebook and will die before I do. Just using it as an example.)

They speak real German, just pronounced barely intelligibly. As a German, it's one of the highlights of the movie! West German Volksfrei movement never forget!

Recently watched Captain America: Civil War, Black Panther, Iron Man 3 and Thor Ragnarok for the first time (yes you heard it correctly).

Most were decent tho i didn't understand the hype for Black Panther(i heard it was much loved) but i loved the tight connection between BP and Civil War.

Thor Ragnarok was surprisingly humor-centric(most MCU films are). I was surprised by the tone of the film in general. It was quite enjoyable.

I think Iron Man 3 was the best of them all if not Thor Ragnarok.

I still think Infinity War is the best MCU film by far tho (i watched Infinity War in the theaters without really seeing any MCU films since like Avengers 2+ Show Spoiler +

so all my friends got really annoyed that i kept asking half the time and uhm also got annoyed before even watching the film as i was doing the completely wrong order(aka not watching the prequels to the giant sequel collaborative film

Bohemian Rhapsody

Queen's music is fantastic, I really like Rami Malek and totally baised I'd say his performance was outstanding, though Gwilym Lee's performance of Brian May even overshadows his.
It is like this: Queen always was about music, not about the private life of Freddy or appearances and so the movie, true to the band only brushes over all the things that would have made for an interresting movie plot.
What you end up with are two hours and thirteen minutes you wish you had rather spend watching a recording of an actual queen concert. Bohemian Rhapsody fails as a movie as it doesn't dare to tell a story.
