Social media goes game of thrones:

Im glad to see TLs reaction to the red wedding. Reading all the hateful tweets towards HBO and Martin made me really disappointed with the mainstream audience, which as always completely rejects the unexpected. The reason people love the books so much is mainly because they are not the always predictable crap everyone is used to. I think HBO deserve a lot of respect for producing this material into a TV show - its quite the rebelion against a century of predictable movie writing and shitty screenplays.

Game of Thrones is rather reminiscent to me of a Shakespearean tragedy (not that I ever liked Shakespeare too much though). Be it interpreted as a lost/abandoned form or an entirely new one, I don't see why it can't be and/or isn't mainstream.

The combination of the door slamming and the shift from the lively bedding music to the sorrowful music.
That's what roused her curiosity and made her worry —I'd say— but she obviously freaked considerably after both those things.
As far as I can tell, she reacts immediately after seeing Bolton wearing armor (chainmail); that's why she pulled back his sleeve.

Frankly I think it'd be extremely obvious if anyone was wearing mail armor though— even if it was covered, but whatever.

Yeah I have to appreciate the tragic aspect. I was actually settling into the show and thinking that the 'nasty business' was behind us. After Jaime and the bear I was thinking 'okay well now it's become a normal hollywood style show, all the of the important characters are invulnerable it seems'. and then the red wedding happened. Holy sugar, that womb stabbing was just gratuitous.

This was my face during that whole murder scene:

The Rains of Castamere is a famous song in Westeros. It is dedicated to Tywin Lannister in particular and House Lannister in general.

It's not the kind of song you'd play at a Wedding (especially not while at war with the Lannisters). Unfortunately, Robb and co. were all too drunk to notice.

I think its also a song that was known for being played while house reyne was brutally massacred and wiped from existence...

Not played at, written about it.
It's the song about Tywin smacking house Reyne after they started to rebel against him while they were thinking to themselves that they are strong enough to do so and not being afraid from Tywin anymore.
It has a more complex history to it, as we know that Tywins father was really weak and demoted the Lannisters dignity to being mocked by everyone, so when Tywin inherited his father he really wanted to restore house Lannister their dignity and on the other hand house Reyne seeing how weak Tywins father was tried to rebel against the new hair.
If you'll read the lyrics now you will understand it better.

- Grey Wind, the Dire Wolf: Shot by Frey Crossbowmen while penned in a cage during the Red Wedding.

Presumed Dead:
+ Show Spoiler +
- Benjen Stark: Disappeared during a ranging north of the Wall. Has not been heard from since.
- Syrio Forel: Likely killed by the King's Guard after protecting Arya.
- Xaro Xho Daxos: Locked in his vault in Qarth per Daenerys' orders after stealing her dragons.

I've probably missed some characters, so feel free to add more. I didn't include some minor characters like Daenery's Dothraki hand maidens and blood riders because they have much of a presence in the story. Nonetheless, I'm surprised at how many likable characters have perished during the the last three seasons. Didn't realize it was quite so many.

I miss Maester Luwin....

I think people are just too used to the generic storyline every mainstream movie has nowadays. You come from nothing build yourself up just to get a minor throwback half way through the movie, have a montage with sad music, just to rise up again for the pleasamt happy ending that is inevitable.

So everyone was expecting robb to avenge his father. The usual setup was built up, that you know too well just to crush all your hopes and expectations in one single stroke at the moment when you thought the story has reached the turning point for the better.

I think its a good change, usually you cant even take throwbacks seriously anymore because you know that movie has to have a happy ending nevertheless. That usually takes away a lot of suspense

Wow, I never saw that coming ;/ o.O Quite sad, but awesomely epic at the same time. The starks are getting pretty fucked right now, but I actually expect that the lannisters will get fucked up soon as well.

Do you ever pull the legs off frogs just for laughs or dream about hurting people for no reason? I don't understand how these are sympathetic character traits.

I think the point is that he wouldn't pull the legs of of frogs for no reason and wouldn't dream of hurting people for no reason. I think what he saying is that he will do whatever is necessary no matter how vile it may appear for a reason. He isn't arbitrarily running across the countryside crashing random weddings and killing people for the hell of it. He's got his reasons, mostly to do with money and keeping him and his on the "winning side."

I really feel the scene with Jon fighting and escaping from the wildings while Bran worgs it up and we get to see the full extent (or possibly just scratching the surface...) of his powers should've been the ending to episode 8 or something instead of included in a part of an episode with what was the biggest event to happen in game of thrones thus far.

It got completely overshadowed and IMO Bran's worging powers is absolutely huge, as someone mentioned earlier in the thread this could even have implications if dany ever fucking makes it over to westeros with her dragons (I would say when... Because if anyone has 'plot armour' in this show you'd think it would be her, but this episode is a very good reminder that no one is safe in this god damn show.).

Womb stabbing was really disturbing IMO. Quick questions to all you americans out there:

What's HBO's position as a TV Channel and how much can they be influenced?
What's the general feeling in the US about strong violence (I think we can call this scene strong violence right?) in television?

Don't get me wrong I totally love the show and really enjoyed this episode but I must say, even being used to seeing violent stuff, the womb stabbing moment was particularly horrible. I'm just affraid HBO might have gone a bit too far with this episode, and I sincerely hope they don't get censored or pressured to make more consensual content for the rest of the show.
What makes GoT great, probably as a book (haven't read it), but here, mainly as a show, is that' they're not affraid to tackle our preconceived ideas of a good storyline. Hope it stays that way :D

EDIT: and wonderfull directing work deciding not to put any music during the credits, this his so crucial in digesting this WTF moment ...
