Can someone "analyze" Baelish's monologue? I got the gist of it but I was sorta lost. Who is Baelish's new friend who tried "something new. something daring."? Geoffry and how he crossbowed the whore confidant? What did he do "for the good of the realm"? What is the realm? Why is there chaos without the realm? Chaos analogy as a ladder? The whole thing about falling and "only the climb is real"? Is he talking about randomness and the choices we make and how we either fail or succeed?

Lord Varys wants realm be stable form and balancing power of houses. Chaos reference is most likely how Littlefinger is aiming to be King of Westeros one way or another (if that is his goal). You go up in rank (ladder) but if you fail once you fall down and die. That is my way of thinking of Littlefingers passion. Other way to say is that there is no chaos at all (bottom of ladder) but when you start climbing you need to climb up ladder or you fall down. Some persons do not like to climb ladder like Eddard Stark (perhaps even Robb Stark) as they stay on his honor (reference to religion/love). I hope this gives some way but i am not philosopher :D

Until death, each person's life is a journey that cannot be predicted. Some people try to achieve something difficult in life while others choose to live a simple and safe life. You only get one chance at achieving greatness, but even if you are successful you will never fully succeed as there is always more to achieve.

Is he talking about randomness and the choices we make and how we either fail or succeed? Varys was talking about doing things for "the good of the realm", and how without the idea of "the good of the realm" there would only be chaos. Littlefinger responds(paraphrased): "Chaos is a ladder, some try to climb but fail, the fall breaks them.(shows a shot of Ros deat to Joffery's crossbow) Some are given the opportunity to climb, but miss the chance(shows a shot of Sansa Stark, sad that she doesn't get to marry Loras). All your love and honor means nothing, there is only the climb(shows Ygritte cresting the top of The Wall)" Brilliant editing and speech.

Yeah and when you reach your final ladder step the ladder rises even higher and below comes new threats. So you need keep climbing up or you will be caught and overthrown.
