Stannis is the head of House Baratheon (a great house), but most of his bannermen chose to follow Renly (Stannis' little brother) instead. Renly was boyfriends with Loras Tyrell. Loras convinced Mace Tyrell to side with Renly. Mace is head of House Tyrell (a great house) and Loras' father. Stannis has Renly killed. This makes all of the House Baratheon bannermen go to Stannis since they have no other liege lord. Loras understands that Stannis was the one to order Renly's death, and so he retreats with his forces. Littlefinger convinces Loras to ally with the Lannisters. The Tyrells have two motives for doing this: - Loras wants revenge against Stannis. - Margaery (Loras' sister and former wife of Renly) wants to be The Queen. A part of this is also that the Tyrells recognize that they still have an opportunity to become major players in the Game after Renly dies. This is an opportunity they may not have had if Stannis won (speculation). Note that the Tyrells were originally going to attack the Lannisters. This is because they supported Renly's claim to the throne, not because they had any particular hatred for the Lannisters. After Renly's death, there was no reason for them to side against the Lannisters, but a very good reason for them to side against Stannis. | ||

I had nerd chills from the moment Bronn shot that arrow until the end of the credits. Directing was really good, the whole final scene divided into Cersei and Tommen sitting on the throne, Tyrion slowly passing out while seeing his father's cavalry joining the fight, Cersei's tale while she's waiting for her death ... Such an amazing finish. Also so many changes in characters and in relationships. Davos is dead, Captain Meryn is dead, Hound turning out to be such an honourable man, Cersei discovering about Shae's existence (even if she probably still hasn't related her to Tyrion), House Tyrell rooting for the Lannisters, DADDY'S BACK IN TOWN ... Also considering the tale Cersei was talking about to her son, did anyone else had a feeling that if that kid doesn't die, he'd do something big? Now that I think of it, with daddy Lannister being back, Joffrey running away from the battlefield as soon as his mom calls him, and the new Lannister / Tyrell alliance, I'm really starting to feel like Joffrey is gonna be in trouble. His Grandpa is obviously the one who should ACTUALLY rule, and I don't think even a prick like Joffrey would stand against him. Also Maergaery Tyrell clearly said she'd like to be queen ... If Sansa is actually gone and Tywinn is disappointed in his grandson as he should, I could very well imagine them finding a way to get rid of Joffrey and putting Tommen on the throne ... Maergaery would than only have to wait a few years for him to grow older before she can become THE Queen! | ||

House Tyrell is one of the big houses, they are on the same level as Starks or Lannisters, they come from South-West, their region is the Reach, their capital is Highgarden. The blond-ish knight who rushes in the throneroom after the battle is Loras Tyrell (the dead gay dude's lover), his sister is Margery (dead gay dude's wife) who said to Littlefinger she wants to be the queen. They supported Renly until his death, now they allied with the Lannisters | ||

Tyrion is just awesome Joffrey yes everyone hates him and justly so Tywin is ruthless but brilliant. Hes rebuild his house to glory, secured the throne through cercei and while he has no problem with killing civilians to further his ends you have to realise that in the world they live in thats pretty normal. Jamie, while obv wrong for screwing his sister doesnt have any reason to be hated beyond that. Cercei is bad but considering she got wed off to Robert who didnt want her so she could put a kid lannister on the throne. As she said in the last episode she basicly wanted to be what Arya is but her father (understandably) wouldnt let her. | ||

Oh, and Cercei pretty much got Robert killed by getting him crazy drunk before fighting a boar, and this has thrown the entire kingdom into chaos. | ||
