Why did i watch those initial 14 minutes? Tuesday is my birthday and i couldnt care less, because the 17th is definately THE Day of the week/month :D + Show Spoiler + Overall i'm pretty pleased with what i saw in those 14 minutes. Dont know why they changed Gared/Will though, and of course i'd imagine winterfell to be more the WINTERfell of my imagination (on the other hand i guess getting some dozend km³ of snow isnt that easy) When i initially saw the cast when it was announced i was quite displeased that especially the "child actors" (read. practically everyone from rickon to robb) would be much older that their counterpart, but i guess i can live with it. Even though robb is supposed to be 14 in the first books that impression is quite shattered in those first 14 minutes :D But it may sound as if i'm displeased, which is absolutely not the case. I love the detail and effort HBO has put into this series and i cant imagine that they will disappoint me in those coming 10 episodes.

I'm so glad they went with a little older kids, especially for the really young ones, the quality of the show stands to benifit, so I am pleased.

I'm quite pleased with their choices and from a broadcasting-perspective its perfectly understandable. Arya is PERFECT in her role, i dont care if she looks 2 years older than portrayed in the books. Bran WILL break multiple hearts when it comes to certain scenes. Sansa, well, there wasnt that much so see in those snippet. Jon and Robb, okay, i got quite a struggle to fit especially rob in my picture. Theon is 20 in the books, yeah, sold. But theon next to robb...im not sure how much they will immerse in the relationship between robb and theon, but that is a point i can live with. + Show Spoiler + back to the robb-thing: i mean, it was intended by martin that robb would have have to step in big footsteps as lord of winterfell, and i mean, who wouldnt think so if a 15 year old boy is supposed to be the new "man" in the family? The robb in the preview...well he seems quite mature, that would be ont thing in season two that would definately become a...well...problem? Yeah, dany i thought a lot about. Completely understandable again, but then again, two explicit beheading in the first 14 minutes. Asoiaf is a pretty mature book series and while i certainly would expect certain groups to be resentful of that dany/drogo scenes, i'd loved it ( in a completele non erotic way >_>) if HBO would have risked it. On the other hand, danys role in the whole series, the scenes she will have to play, i can understand why hbo would chose a slighly older actress. But enough of the nitpicking, i looks like i hate what i saw which is absolutely not the case! :D Good why cant it be the 17th already? ![]()

I think one reason was because he felt like his writing for the youngest of the characters wasn't nearly as good as his other characters. I can't seem to find the quote now, google is failing me. iirc its because he originally planned a 5year jump between "A dance with dragons" and "The winds of winter", an idea that is completely off the table as it stands now. (at least i read something along the lines of that in an interview some years ago) // wait, or was it between book 3 and 4? god im confused now ![]()

Most of their reasons are pretty hollow too, but even the best reviewed material is going to have a few people who hate it. just look at the reviewer's picture. She probably thinks Desperate Housewives and Tru Blood are good shows lol. I will pretty much always disregard what any middle-aged white woman has to say about entertainment.

There was supposed to be a 5 year gap in the series, but when he started writing it, it didn't work out the way he wanted. He had to write so many scenes where the characters are looking back on the events of the 5 year gap to make it work, so he scrapped it. That left him with a main cast of characters that were younger than what he initially had planned for (at least for the second part of the series). He talks about the five year gap in this podcast (spoilers of all the books up to Dance): http://www.dragonpage.com/2010/04/27/cover-to-cover-405a/

Originally there was a few year time leap planned for the novel Game of Thrones, but it just didnt work in the narrative when he tried to write it. It was within the first novel.

Doesn't really contain any spoilers if you haven't read the books. Sorry if it's a repost. http://winter-is-coming.net/media/videos/character-profiles/ Very cool. My anticipation is mounting. If this turns out to be anything close to as good as the Wire, but in a fantasy setting, I may die of excitement.

Really hope this is a fluke of IMDB and we don't have 7 episodes of The Bran Hour, as I felt his arc wasn't really interesting until + Show Spoiler + halfway through Clash of Kings Definately a fluke.
