I'm afraid you're right about that. GRRM made so much money with the show, finishing the series probably wouln't even register in his bank account. Honestly, I think he doesn’t enjoy writing them anymore. Or the rise in popularity made it less fun for him. It is tough to tell. In his position I’d not waste my remaining years writing. Not with GoT money.

Not with GoT money. My double top secret theory is that the fan base figured out the ending of the series so long ago that it wasn't fun for him to write the books because he loved subverting expectations so much. But that isn't sustainable over a long narrative.

Maybe Martin is still mad at himself he forgot to do a time skip and his envisioned ending will look awkward with most of the main characters still being teenagers or barely above 20. If I'm not mistaken seventh book Bran and Arya will be younger than seventh book Harry Potter. Fortunately it's not going to be a problem in the show, with everyone being older there.
Except Shireen. She had to be a little girl in the show too. + Show Spoiler +

Agreed. He created a series that went to great pains to detail how long it takes to travel from point A to point B in an era without mechanized transport. And then he put the three major plots of the series thousands of miles apart and never bothered to skip forward a couple of years. A lot of the series is waiting for two characters to you like to meet up and then realizing that the plot can only move forward if they go on another long, painful road trip.

He doesn't look like the type of guy who likes whoring and skydiving, maybe he actually likes writing.
This is me being hopeful / naive though.

Rumor has it that GRRM loves his booze cruises, so I think it’s likely he never finishes.
|
I definitely think he intends to finish but the story got extremely complex, showwatchers only see the tip of the iceberg really, and his way of writing isn't super efficient either. GRRM writes whole sections, from multiple povs until he realizes that he would like to do it differently and then he obviously has to adjust everything around that fact. I wouldn't be surprised if he has written enough material to publish multiple books at this point, sadly not the content he is happy with though. TWOW will be published someday, if there is enough time for the last book (assuming it only needs 2) is another question, something not worth speculating on either.

Heads up. Hour and a half. Think 830 is a behind the scenes episode type thing as the listing states 9pm yet last season's finale just started at 730. Either that or last season finale was over an hour long, don't remember.

Hm...
+ Show Spoiler +Is Bran plotting to kill Daenerys? Sansa plotting to kill Jon? Or Arya threatening Jon...
|
+ Show Spoiler +A snooze-worthy premiere for me. Didn't feel the tension between characters they were establishing, and the middle school humour about balls is really, really grating on me. Yara's rescue was very rushed as well. If they only have six episodes to close it all out, I'm a bit worried if a boring set-up episode was one of them.
|
+ Show Spoiler +Agree that not much happened this episode but I'm giddy imagining what's gonna happen next week. Mainly I'mintrugued in Jaime meeting pretty much everyone
|
+ Show Spoiler +Episode was pretty much a filler episode just setting up characters so they can actually progress their respective stories. Basically a glorified reunion episode so we got to see characters meeting for the first time in a very long time.
Friend made me realize it's the first time Jaime and Bran have seen each other since he pushed him out of the window...
Also didn't expect Jon to ride a dragon this soon, especially just for fun.

+ Show Spoiler + I am so confused on how they are gonna settle out the throne, Jon didnt want the throne before (being told hes the heir), Danny has been set on it pretty much the whole show, Sansa hates Danny and Jon, that Arya scene makes me think Arya with Sansa more than Jon.
So Danny wants the throne but it isnt hers (her whole thing is that shes the rightful heir will she let Jon take it?) Will Jon fight for the throne if danny wont yield What does Sansa want, she doesnt like Danny, definitely doesnt like Cersi, someone has to sit on the throne (will she support Jon)
Im so confused...
+ Show Spoiler + also why dont the northerns (including the bear lady) believe that if they stand alone they're gonna all die? Did they not pull the wight show with the Northerns before brining it to Cersi? Everyone is hating on Jon for bending the knee to Danny but there was no choice unless he wants everyone to die, its like what they mentioned in the historys of game of thrones youtube series one of the old Starks bent the knee when the first dragon dude (i forget if its Aegon) came to westros and was like either u all die or u bend the knee, if anything Jon is following tradition

+ Show Spoiler +I think its just more to showcase how loyal the Northerners are. If they didnt spend at least one episode of them being resistant to Dany then it wouldnt feel believable that they decided to join up, even if it is against fighting against the dead.
Um... this episode felt like a waste. 1 hour of people flirting sex, and mediocre-acting reunions. Hoping the rest of the eps in this season will be better.

Episode was mainly throwback and filler. So many parallels to S1E1
Samwell and Daenerys scene was the best of the bunch.
|
Didn't they say that the episodes are going to be like 1.5 hours long each? E1 was 53 minutes...
Also am I the only one who's missing a scene between Brann and Arya? Every one of the Starks had interactions with each other except those two. What's up with that?

Yea the shortness of this episode was grating. Too much flying with dragons but it looks cool.
Bran and Arya scene had been done last season.
