I hope Brienne and Jamie have a fight to the death. Arya has to fight the Mountain, maybe saving The Hound while she does it.

I am sure you could have made it a bit slower without giving the audience the feeling of it being fillers. Budget is there. Audience surely is there. The only reason I can see is that they got a few milestones + ending from GRRM and were not comfortable with writing the story around it. Thoughts? :S I remember hearing that 6 or 7 season was the norm in tv actor contract, meaning a lot of actors would be up to ressign their contract if they kept going foward, maybe the GRRM deal was also just for 7 season. Pure speculation on my part.

If nothing meaningful happens in the next episode (+ Show Spoiler + which sure looks like the case from the preview NPR's Glen Weldon had a fun article about the first episode that pretty much said "They answered all our questions so we didn't need to worry about them." The whole episode seemed designed to clear the table for the rest of the season. https://www.npr.org/2019/04/15/713272556/game-of-thrones-season-8-episode-1-nothing-lasts

Yeah, the dialogue felt too short and quippy. I wish the conversations were more substantial, but I guess they needed to follow-up with as many characters as possible before the plot accelerates.

Also, nobody (except Gendry) really seems too bothered about the approaching threat, there should have been much more panic, especially amongst the locals. If you scroll up, you'll see there are some people complaining that this episode already had too much conversation instead of action. They're trying to please both crowds I guess. Personally I would've been happy to see another 20 mins of dialogue but eh. Next episode is 54 mins, 3rd episode is 82 mins, longest of the season.

I think the issue is that there were too many scenes, none of which were particularly well detailed or fleshed out. They seemed to need to do so many things that they didn't have the screen time to do any of them well. I complained about the lack of action, but replacing action with conversations that mean something and are well thought out would have worked fine.

I'm not a hard man to please, I actually defended seasons 5 and 6 despite all the hate. 6 I felt had several of the best eps in the series even. Now? It's strange that even though the Night King has finally breached The Wall, that there just feel like lower stakes than in the past. It's like a fanfic parade of GoT all-stars interacting and reuniting where you just aren't scared of losing most of these guys anymore like in the past. After that god-awful "Beyond the Wall" ep, I'm thinking most of the fan favorites make it out of the North even though things look hopeless. Gonna guess Bran is the secret weapon somehow... Cersei's scheme could be interesting as a somewhat bittersweet ending in the aftermath. Euron will probably betray her before things come to fruition though. Jamie dies somewhere in there. Possibly Tyrion as well, or he simply survives as the sole remnant of his extinct house. Yep, decent but nothing resembling the greatness that brought this show success in the first place. At least it won't go out like Dexter. On April 16 2019 04:12 Jockmcplop wrote: Who does everyone want to see fight each other in the last season? I hope Brienne and Jamie have a fight to the death. Aside from that...reanimated Hodor vs anyone
