Cause if the accused is about to be found guilty, he can call for trial by combat anyway? I can't help but these eastern cities make everything in westeros look insignificant. I feel the the power/number of people/apparent higher skills in magic resp. science (at least that's what I suppose they must have) should effect Westeros to a much higher effect. And those bankers, well it simply doesnt make sense to me how they could establish themselves as an apparently independent power without an army themselves, while people around kill each other en masse. What if somebody decides to pay them a visit, kill them and rob all their money? Do they at least own the city they live in or what? Or am I simply applying too much logic to a fantasy storyline? + Show Spoiler + Also this CGI in the trailer with sansa and littlefinger looks horrible to me. Almost on the "Tyrion gets dragged over the battlefield"-level. Keep in mind that we've just discovered the Iron Bank of Braavos. We know next to nothing about them, aside from the fact that they collect their debts. We might learn more in time, and then it could make more sense. Or not! It is a fantasy world after all.

I can't remember Tyrion doing him wrong at any point. I'm not saying I don't see why Varys would betray him, but he seems to be alluding to something Tyrion has done to him that's escaping me now.

If there is one thing they kept saying about him its that he is hotheaded and a hotheaded guy cant resist jumping into the action.

The official title of episode 4.08 is "The Moutain vs The Viper" and the season preview had a scene of them fighting in front of what looks like an King's Landing crowd. I'm just excited to finally see that Strongman dude from iceland appear as the Mountain.

I have never read the books and don't plan to until the whole show is finished, but come on.. how much more evidence do you need, it is even in the title.

Its obvious because theyre book readers. It seems likely because a) Oberyn wants to fight the mountain b) Tywin agreed to this fight c) This presents Tywin with a good excuse to organise it, as the mountain is the 'champion' of the Lannisters, kind of. Apart from Jaime who has one hand. Also Oberyn is also a judge, so there are 2 judges in favour of this solution.

I think he means he remembers that Tyrion saved them but sadly can't help him with the trial. If goes against Cersei she'll just have him killed or banished.

It's like it was a crime, I dunno, I just find it interesting. ON THE BRIGHT SIDE! It seems like GRRM is focusing on the show, and not on the writing that much, and it's very likely he will rather just work on the show opposed to finishing the books, and starting Season 6, a majority of the content will all be new, and nobody will be able to spoil anyone!

On May 13 2014 05:06 Zexion wrote: Can someone explain to me why a duel between Oberyn and the Mountain, as a result of Tyrion's demand for a trial by combat, is so obvious (according to some in this thread)? 1) Oberyn enters the city to seek out vengeance for the murder of Elia and her daughters. "She was raped and murdered by the mountain" 2) Tywin asks Oberyn to take place as a judge and says he "could arrange for this meeting" knowing all too well that Oberyn wants the Mountain dead. 3) Tyrion is confronted with Shae and loses his mind. His last resort is trial by combat. The only options available to him are: Jaime, his brother who has lost his hand (clearly not a great pick for this type of combat), Bronn, a sellsword whose only wish is to get paid handsomely for as little labour as possible (can't speak with him, no idea of his where abouts since his imprisonment). Either of these two isn't a real option as of yet. This is where THE IDEA of Oberyn comes into play. 1+1=2 in this case. We're just not so far into the season for Tyrion to realise this (I think he didn't give it any thought until Shae walked in and he got publicly humiliated that his rage against his entire family came to this outburst in the last scene of today's episode). So, it's not obvious YET when you purely look at the scene's we've been given thusfar. As people dig through trailers and previews however, it is clearly Oberyn fighting a battle with the Mountain. And that is why, I think, it makes it a little obvious. Sucks that some readers just don't have any dignity and start coming up with these posts where they 'guess' the outcome of cliffhangers. Too bad I'm not wielding the banhammer. ![]()
