It isn't that Naruto is a sensor-type automatically, or that he learned it. One of the advantages of Sage Mode is that you are acutely aware of ambient levels of chakra around you (due to how you drew in so much nature chakra from around you, you become more aware of what ISN'T nature chakra), and are able to tell who/what those chakra levels belong to. I'd theorize that Sage Mode's sensor radius is about as wide as Konohagakure. In Kyuubi Mode, that same ambient sensing ability gets turned up to 11. | ||

It was mentioned way back that Sage mode allows him to sense other ninjas and such so it's specific to sage mode. I dunno if that's the case when he goes Kyuubi mode but I figure it's the case. | ||

I haven't seen Naruto done any sensor ninja stuff until recently though other than some basic "oh someone is nearby" that kinda thing which almost every ninja did to some extend | ||

With all the sensors in the army, they couldn´t find the clones that snuck in during the night until Naruto got there. He´s not very refined though, he could use sense the flow of chakra from Pains black wands, but he can´t read minds like the interrogation experts, and he´d be lost in the room with battlefield-intel ninja-machines. | ||

I think it was during sage mode or if not, it was likely right after he beat his darker self at the waterfall with KillerBee and then fought the Kyuubi and was able to gain control with the help of his mom  | ||
