Neji has had little to no effect on the story since the Rescue Sasuke arc. If you were going to kill him off, at least kill him off when everyone thought he was dead after an epic battle.

Good news: A big character got killed off
Bad news: it wasn't so meaningful because he hardly mattered in this arc

Someone who obtained a dvd extra from the theaters during Road To Ninja said that Kishi explained in an interview that one by one there will be more deaths, and that Neji was just the beginning.

I wonder when Sasuke is gonna come in and realize that his stupid revenge plan against Kohona failed AGAIN and that he's just an irrelevant character in the grand scheme of things.

I disagree, most deaths aren't epic at all especially not in a war. This death clearly showcases that anyone can die at any moment like it should be in war. It fits perfectly into the theme imo.

Assuming Naruto has consistent themes.
The only consistent theme I have noticed, is that since the Hidan/Kakuzu arc it just hasn´t handled its huge ensmble of characters in any satisfying way.

it took how many chapters and an entire story arc EACH to kill off the main characters you mentioned. you seriously think Kishi is gonna spin off THAT many long stories on EACH person who's gonna die during this war? face it, the majority of ninjas in this battle, aren't even a microcosm of power level equal to what they're up against, it doesn't make sense to have them have such a huge story about their death, when realistically, madara could wipe the floor with them instantly if he wanted. Giving neji an actual meaningful death by saving naruto is more than you could ask for. What was neji gonna do against obito or madara. have 360 degrees of their attack and spin around a bunch until he's exhausted only to get time/space jutsu'd into oblivion?

I would be dissapointed if a good character like that just gets killed EZ mode without even doing anything segnificant in the whole of shippuden (for anime at least :D ).

How in the world was Neji´s death meaningless? Haven´t you guys read the manga? The whole point of his death was made when he first off all sacrificed himself for Hinata, and when he mentioned how he understood his father. The Hyuga Branch house lives to protect the Main house, so it´s only natural that Neji died under these circumstances. However, which I believe you guys are more commenting on, is the sheer randomness where someone had to die so suddenly, but I guess this is a war afterall. People have been complaining on how no major character have died yet, and how the previous fights were too long. Is there any room for the war to progress at a decent pace with major characters dying in a meaningful way? I dont think so.

I would prefer more dramatic deaths on the upcoming chapters. It's the final arc anyways.
It'd be a shame if kishi revives every dead konoha again via sasuke rinne tensei or some pussy plot twist
