I think it'd be more correct to say that Naruto found 'work around' to many of the techniques he learned because he lacks Sasuke's bloodline ability. Hence many of his techniques, e.g., the sage mode, are not exactly identical to the forms that were taught to him by his masters.

EDIT: I think one reason behind Sasuke not using much chidori anymore is to show that he's moving away from his old self and instead adopting the whole revenge-for-my-bro persona.
